UPDATE: For those just finding this thread it should now be known that the Kickstarter campaign was a stunning success! The revival effort brought in $6.3 million, good enough for 14 new episodes, which includes a Christmas special! That topped the original stretch goal of $5.5 million, and brought MSTies two more new episodes than the original goal of 12. It is now also the all-time highest-earning crowdfunding campaign for any television or film project.Well done, MSTies! We have awhile to wait before new episodes are here, but the anticipation should be fun. As said below, it's an exciting time Below find the thread as it followed 30 days of dizzying highs and terrifying lows, of wild speculation and apprehension. And finally, celebration as the final-night telethon brought out all the stops (and a host of strangely-appropriate technical glitches) as well as the final push that made the campaign such a success. Enjoy! ------------- For those who haven't been following the thread in Deep 13 News, check it out. A crowdfunding project to bring back MST3K is now underway, and they need help. Their initial goal is $2 million, so break out the checkbooks and let's get this done. You can find details specifically starting here, but the whole thread is worth reading: forrestcrow.proboards.com/post/1129929/threadThe direct link to contribute is here: www.kickstarter.com/mst3k/bringbackmst3kJoel also did a Reddit AMA today to share some information: www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/3sbhp7/iam_joel_hodgson_of_mystery_science_theater_3000/It's an exciting time, MSTies Let's do this.

Quick status check for those who don't want to click the link:
$2 million may seem like a lot, folks, but let's remember Veronica Mars achieved that in a single day. And who the hell remembers Veronica Mars? (this was before the girl who stared in it starred in Frozen, mind you)
I'm going to hold off donation until I'm sure how much I can give. The one thing I need to note about the timing of this is that it's the Christmas season and I have family to think about. But whether it's $5 or $200, I'm sure I'll give something (I have my eye on that Blu-Ray set they're offering in the prizes).
Some info I personally want to know though: Will the series be streaming exclusive or will it be broadcast on television? Most likely the former but I'd love the latter. And what would it take to get further seasons produced? Would it be funded through the money made off of streaming/broadcasting or would another Kickstarter be involved?
But the fact that they're offering the series on DVD and blu-ray is an encouraging sign. That means they'll have to rights to release the movies on disc beforehand. Woo!

I already posted my opinion on Facebook (and many disagree, but that's their decision so be it), but I'm a little hectic on it. If it were another spin-off like, say, Rifftrax or Cinematic Titanic, I wouldn't mind it. But if it were a season 11, completely ignoring how the finale ended (which was a really great way to end it), then that's where I become skeptical - because it's these kinds of reboots that can lead a once-good show into a cash cow machine.
Many people watch MST for the commentary - I do too. That's the whole point of the show. But I also did like its story arc which I feel was always a thing in the show from the beginning. I feel if it were to continue, I wouldn't mind it being something like just Mike and the bots riffing in the apartment they stay in or whatever.

I kinda feel the same way. It's a shame that the finale is now not going to be the end because it was a perfect way to wrap up the show. I feel that it's also going to be hard to get used to a new storyline and that...well, it feels a little strange, you know?
I hope that this turns out for the best and I'm definitely watching it but I'm just wondering...do we NEED a new MST3K at all? Not to say that Joel doesn't know what he's doing but there was something magical about the original show and it seems like it'd be hard to replicate. Will the Satellite of Love still have its charm without the little touches like the random objects on the walls or the letters from children?
I don't want it to feel forced or phony, like Arrested Development Season 4 was. At this point, I don't know if another MST3K season is a good thing. I'm glad for Joel and all the MSTies but for me, I'm just not sure.

Relax, it's an alternate universe. (So I tell myself). Joel revealed something telling on the Reddit: He's a Timelord.

The Season 10 finale will still be a finale of sorts, even with show now continuing. It'll be the end of that era of the show, like Mitchell or Laserblast...
Anyway: this is amazing! I can't afford some of the pricier packages, but I'll definitely donate something.

I agree with wattamack4 and servocrowation. I just don't see the point in a reboot. Why not just leave it as something special? My fear is that this remake is that it's going to take the worst aspects of riffing and make that the focus of the show *Cough cough* Whose line remake *Cough Cough*. But far be it from me to tell people what they should and shouldn't enjoy. So have at it I say.

I'd be lying if I said I had no apprehension whatsoever. Yeah, it's a dicey thing to take something like this and continue it, especially after the show has had the time to grow in legend. I'm putting a fair amount of faith in Joel here. Even with him just behind the scenes, and him being the only one of the old Brains to be involved, it is a major endorsement for me.
But yeah, I want it to be a worthy continuation, and that will be a tall order. Fingers crossed.
Also, added a link to Joel's AMA in the original post in this thread.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Star Trek was off the air for a long time when they brought it back with a whole new crew. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a new crew. Fresh ideas, fresh writers. They need a clean break with the old but with a connection to the old. Doctor Who does this brilliantly.
The comparisons to the old would be much worse if you used the same people. They're bringing Star Trek back after its been of the air for more than 10 years, why not MST3k?

Just as I expected. This is REALLY exciting. Even with a new host/voices for the bots, I have faith in Joel. I have faith in MST3k.

I can't believe how fast they're earning these donations! It looks like there's a good chance that they will hit the halfway mark within 24 hours of posting this. I guess it'll probably slow down a bit after the initial excitement but it does seem like they have a decent shot at the $5.5 million goal.

I mean, the SciFi era undid the CC ending. But I'm still not totally confident about the reboot.

1. Is it wrong that I'm leaving the Kickstarter page up and keep checking to see the donations go up?
2. I don't get the lack of confidence in this. I get that a lot of folks were burned by Star Wars Prequels and Star Trek Reboots and any number of other ill conceived reboots and relaunches...but the show's concept is so rooted in the fun of it all that I can't imagine it being anything less than a fun and joyful return of a premise and concept we all love. It's totally possible that it might not be as good or as funny as the original, but I guess a lot of us went through that already with the scaled back staff of seasons 9 and 10--and even those are classic.
I'm all in on this.

I really don't think that it's that difficult to have continuity. You can make up a story easy enough. Repeat to yourself its just a show.
I read that the new bad is Dr. Foresters son. He wants to get into the family business. He kidnaps Crow and Tom and the pizza delivery guy who happens to be there. If Mike will do a Cameo, great. If not you could have Crow and Tom try to text him, but since their arms don't work, its difficult. Then the Mads takes their cell phones and text Mike that they're going on a silly adventure or something and not to worry.
I'm sure that Joel and the new writers can think of something. It's the least of my worries.
