Do we know for certain it was the Veronica Mars fans or is this just an assumption?

Wow, that sucks if they were really making punk pledges like that. I wonder if Kickstarter could identify such individuals, and ban then from participating, or charge a small penalty fee for an obvious abuse of the system?

There was a lot of dropped pledges close to the end of the telethon, but once the add-on totals were included, there was no stopping the climb. I think Veronica Mars fans have better things to do than feebly try and sabotage another successful campaign. Rumours spread like wildfire on FB, so don't trust the comments.

Not something I could provide, since I was neither the one who claimed to have evidence of nor was I there for the whole telethon. A lot of people seemed pretty adamant about it, beyond that I can say nothing.....if so I couldn't imagine it was much more then a small handful of fanatics.

Well, of course we don't know for certain if the people trolling us (by pulling their big pledges) in the last minutes of the campaign were specifically Veronica Mars fans; after all, they didn't exactly come out and introduce themselves and tell us why they were doing it. My impression is that they were simply disgruntled about the fact that the MST3K campaign was so successful; they couldn't stop us from reaching our fundraising targets, so all they had left was to deprive us of the pleasure of claiming the #1 spot on Kickstarter.
Of course, it's also possible that they were legitimate backers who realized at the last minute that they had overextended themselves, and pulled out before they were locked in to pledges they couldn't afford. I'm told that this happens all the time with crowdfunding campaigns, although in this case, the timing and the amounts involved were highly suspicious.

Most likely it was the latter, seeing how they made all the original goals, their extra $5K wouldn't have made a difference. Just like people who lower their hands when they see someone else will volunteer, they decided not to spend the $5K.

Well no matter what people's motivations were makes little difference now, we've proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that MST3K still has an audence and still has the potential to attract more! Now Diabolik (which if I'll be perfectly honest I found to be one of the weaker episodes) isn't the end but only a season finale!

The timing was very suspect. Much like most telethons, actually. This is very exciting! I have longed for the day where our favorite silhouette stallions saunter their way back to us! People may knock an entirely new cast, but nobody lives forever, and people get older and want to try new things before they die. Fresh, somewhat young faces and voices and what is needed to breathe some new air into this cult classic series! I for one and very excited that the actual series is returning rather than weak substitutions; Rifftrax excluded of course. I really hope it ends up on either Netflix or Shout Factory TV. MST3K needs a good, stable home and a a company that will fuel its existence so it can live on for many years to come.

While my feeling of the new cast at this point is largely undecided, I will say that Hampton Yount has already proven himself to be fantastic as Crow and Baron Vaughn is growing on me too even if his voice isn't as deep as I'd like for Tom Servo. With that said it's all pretty much a clean slate for me and I'm pretty open minded about them all at this point.

Still waiting on Joel's big post-Kickstarter update. Hopefully it'll be out this week before Christmas.

Again on Twitter, Trace is finding more ways to say he is not involved (and seemingly never will be). Also, hints at there being a "reason" behind why the rest of the cast is not involved. "No. I am not involved." "I have made it very clear from the start that I am NOT involved in the reboot. Anyone who says otherwise is lying." "That is not happening. We are not involved in the new thing." "Kinda not at all. Sort of never gonna be. That sort of thing." "Hmmm. Must be a reason."

Trace seems overly bitter about the whole thing, it's interesting in contrast how while the Rifftrax guys while maybe not actively taking a part have been overly supportive, even going as far as helping contribute to one of the bonus rewards. I find it ironic as unlike Trace, Frank and Josh who have been nothing passive aggressive about the revival, the Rifftrax crew stuck with the show to the very end. At least we know Paul Chaplin is back as part of the writing team.
