I do like that Vaughn and Yount have a background in stand-up. A great many of the original crew bubbled out of the Minneapolis comedy scene and landed on MST3K.

I JUST REALIZED WHERE I KNOW YOUNT FROM!
He was the writer for a webcomic I used to read called Rob And Elliot! If that's the kind of humor we're getting, then we are *solid*. (I just checked out Rob and Elliot... it had stopped a few years ago, but I was glad to see that his brother was not only keeping the archives open, but had started something called Hamlet's Danish which I'm reading now. It's not the full Rob & Elliot team, but the comedy's still got the zing.)

I wasn't familiar with Vaughn or Yount, but I looked them up on YouTube and the stand-up videos I watched were very funny. Vaughn seemed particularly talented at switching between voices and there's at least one video of him singing a really good rendition of Duck Tales and other 90s cartoon theme songs. So, Servo will definitely still be able to sing.
I knew Felicia would get a lot of hate as soon as the information that she was the next Mad linked, but I think that the hate is really just coming from a very small, annoyingly vocal minority. I've personally always liked her work and I think she'll do great as a wide-eyed, mad scientist.

I think Felicia Day's biggest opponents are the people who object to her sudden popularity over the last few years. I've got a friend who dislikes her because she thinks she's just a good businesswoman and not a good actor. I've never been able to get into the "It's popular, so I won't like it" attitude, though... and, really, she seemed all right in the video. A part of my heart still wishes it'd been Kristen Schaal, but I think Day's going to bring something really good to the role of Kinga.

I think I just get irritated by the people who attack Day claiming she's not a "real" nerd or what have you. I'm not saying she's the best actress ever (because she's definitely not) but I think as far as a character-actor she's probably going to do at least as well as the other character-actors have in the past. And she can sing! Schaal would definitely have been amazing. I can just hear her crazy, high pitched voice screaming at Jonah and the bots, but I bet she would have cost considerably more money. Especially since she's doing so much voice acting for so many popular shows lately.

I thought the silhouette of the second Mad could very easily be of Frank or Josh...

Minority opinion here, so be forewarned! I only have a passing familiarity with most of them, but I just don't see anything to be excited about. I could still be won over in the end though! Probably going to check out some random youtube videos based on the comments above though, thanks for that idea.

BUT, then I wonder what any of us (assuming we were adults at the time) would have thought of Mike or Trace or Josh or Frank if we would have seen a random comedy bit of theirs in 1988. They all were essentially no names--and to be brutally honest, most of them still are essentially no names outside of the riffing world. It's not like any of them went on to become the next Mike Myers or Stephen Colbert or Robin Williams. I really think it all goes back to Joel's point that it's the show as a whole that is what is special, and not the individual comedic talents of the cast. I actually think a big charm of the show is that the riffs and skits aren't always lol funny.

Patton Oswalt is to be TV's Son of TV's Frank and will also contribute to writing the show!!!! And I'm all for it! He and Ms. Day will be great together!

Joel is steering the ship and I am so very enthused that he has culled a terrific cast/crew. The addition of Patton will give the show even more of an endless font of pop culture knowledge.

I think when rumors started to surface about Patton I referred to his potential casting as Frank 2.0. I'm happy to hear I was right.
Now, to just get Frank to cameo as TV's Father of TV's Son of TV's Frank.

I liked the video too! The new guys seem to be fitting into the bots' roles pretty nicely so far.

I like the line "You know, I've never met a robot who beeped". Is it a subtle reference to Tom Servo's prototype Beeper? Beeper only appeared with Crow and Gypsy, right?
