You forgot to add the bonus disc, a compilation of KTMA host segments!
It sounds as if a few of them are lost though. I'm hoping the segments from the missing episodes are at the very least intact.

Forgot to prepare for this one. I should be able to pre-order it this weekend as long as people aren't rushing in for that KTMA disc.
But I'm kind of disappointed with the KTMA disc. I want to own the actual episodes, not a host segment compilation. The fact they're doing this makes me feel that full episodes on pressed discs won't happen now. Especially that some of them are still lost.

Since KTMA is pretty much a niche within a niche, this doesn't surprise me.
I do have a tiny shred of hope they might do Shout Select limited edition online exclusive releases of the epsiodes though. But that is looking thin.

So now season 9 with three unreleased episodes has the most episodes left to be released. Seasons 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8 all have two unreleased episodes each while season 10 only has one unreleased episode. But I'm kind of disappointed with the KTMA disc. I want to own the actual episodes, not a host segment compilation. The fact they're doing this makes me feel that full episodes on pressed discs won't happen now. Especially that some of them are still lost. I have to agree. It's exciting to get an official KTMA release of any kind. But if they're going with host segments only it seems like this would be the perfect thing to post to ShoutFactoryTV or elsewhere online. Since this release will apparently be missing some host segments (I really wish they'd at least confirm if the host segments from the first three episodes will be intact) and Joel keeps dangling the promise of whole episodes being released somehow I feel much more inclined to go with whatever Joel is offering.

The bright side though is for Shout! to be putting the host segments out, they would have likely digitized the episodes in their entirety. Regardless of their availability it's comforting to know that they're finally archived in a format that won't deteriorate. At least for the most part...waiting to hear the details of what exactly is missing and why.

this will also be the end of the road for volumes unless they license from Paramount which I think is possible. Two episodes The Amazing Transparent Man and Quest of the Delta Knights seem like the only two left that they can easily get. Maybe they will include two previous singles release to make a 4 Volume set. We are now down to the really interesting part of these releases

Shout! tends to be pretty upfront with the fans. If they knew this would be the last volume they could release on a regular schedule I figure they would have broken that news. Since they didn't, I'm thinking that of the six remaining episodes that aren't owned by Hart or Toho or happens to be named Rocketship-XM, they may be able to wrangle four for a final volume in the summer of '17. After that we'll have further re-releases and Season 11 to occupy us until/if they clear the problem episodes, which would possibly be released as singles as they get sorted out.

Wow, I've been out of it with the DVD sets for the past year. Had no idea we were so close to the end.
I started collecting the DVDs just as the Sci Fi channel's reruns ended in '04, so it feels appropriate that the they're winding down just as the show comes back.

Bad news about that KTMA bonus disc:
"Dear MSTies:
We regret to tell you that the source material for the KTMA host segments we had planned to use for the Volume XXXVIII bonus disc is not of good enough quality to create a DVD that’s up to our -- or your -- standards.
We’re as disappointed as you must be. We were so excited about the prospect of sharing the beginnings of MST3K with you and while we haven’t given up on the releasing KTMA host segments completely, we have run out of production time to get them ready for this release.
In light of that, we have decided to move up production on a bonus DVD that was planned for later in 2017: a limited-edition reissue of the Play MSTie For Me Triple Decker DVD, the long out-of-print collection of MST3K musical performances that would put Broadway to shame.
If that sounds OK to you, there’s nothing you need to do -- you’ll get that bonus DVD with your order. But if you would rather cancel your order, we understand and apologize for the inconvenience. Please email info@shoutfactory.com with your order number and we will take care of it.
Thanks for understanding. We really appreciate your support!
Best,
Team Shout! Factory"

That's disappointing. It makes me sad to think that there aren't any good quality versions of the KTMA episodes out there. But maybe they're searching for more copies and just wanted more time to get them ready.
Can't say I'm too excited about the Play MSTie for Me. For one thing I already have the Best Brains DVD release of it, but moreso is that a collection of host segments already seemed fairly pointless- at least the KTMA ones could have been something new.
Also: They were planning Play MSTie bonus disc for later in 2017- so they must have other stuff planned after Vol 38 after all.

While I am disappointed that Shout decided to postpone or cancel the host segments DVD, my hope is that they will now try extra hard to round up ALL the KTMA episodes in the best quality they can and present a complete host segments DVD. They obviously have the first two episodes, and hopefully more.

Well that's a damn shame. However, it seems like they are pushing back the KTMA disc rather than dropping it completely. At least this will give them more time to look for more KTMA material, be them the master tapes or maybe back ups.
