Imagine Mitchell not being the nastiest Joe Don Baker movie ever made.
::shudder::

In a couple of hours, there will be a live stream where Kevin answers questions and spins a prize wheel for lucky backers. I'll be attending if anyone's wondering, but I doubt I'll actually win anything. I never win contests nor have I been lucky with sweepstakes in the past.
UPDATE: Well the stream is over and against all odds... I actually won a prize. Guess I jinxed myself in a good way.

They added a bunch more stuff you can get if they reach a certain number of backers (up to 10,000). $1 (potentially) gets you a bunch of MP3 riffs, along with 10 shorts.

Press release for Doctor Who: The Five Doctors is out now, tho Rifftrax hasn't shared the information themselves yet.
I'm honestly kind of disappointed. Starship Troopers was a bigger movie title, this isn't even a movie. I guess I was expecting something more with all of that mystery built up.

I'm really not into Doctor Who at all, so I will likely skip this one. Which is a shame, as I have made a concerted effort to catch as many Rifftrax live shows as I can. But I don't know a thing about Doctor Who and can't see myself enjoying the show.

I don't know much about Doctor Who either, but the same could be said for The Room, Birdemic and Samurai Cop before RiffTrax. Or pretty much every movie MST3K did.

I would actually have been 100% down with that!

I guess the difference with Doctor Who and stuff like The Room, Birdemic and Samurai Cop is that Doctor Who does not stand alone and has a huge fanbase that honestly enjoys the shows and movies, unlike say The Room where it is beloved for its awfulness. I just am not all that enthused to sit through a Doctor Who movie and not get the references and, likely, the audience itself will be filled with fans of Doctor Who. Not sure I can take a theater full of Who fans, lol.

I need this Five Doctors Rifftrax in my life, but I wouldn't be able to see the screenings, living in the UK and all. Kinda hoping they make it available to purchase on the site at a later date.

I wasn't impressed with RiffTrax's take on "The Five Doctors." With all of my scifi wanderings, I had yet to see a single episode of Doctor Who before tonight, so it was kind of cool to finally get to see an episode. The riffing was mildly funny at best.. I don't think this was a good choice for a live show at all. It had a few great moments, but nowhere near the Holy Grail of Samurai Cop was.

I thought "The Five Doctors" turned out pretty well. There were a few slow spots later in the show, but there were also some very funny ones. They really went to town with things like Sarah Jane falling off the "cliff" and Richard Hurndall's appearance ("I'm off to have tea with the second Darrin from 'Bewitched'.") As for "Play Nice", the evening's short, it's practically the British "Shake Hands with Danger".

I thought it was a step up from the shorts show. As someone unfamiliar with Doctor Who I could tell it was a charming premise though this film as a whole wasn't very good. The entire selling point was five doctors onscreen and one is a different actor and another disappears entirely after a small cameo and doesn't even share a single scene with the others? What a load of malarkey. If I were a Who fan I'd be pissed at the false advertising. Sure it's five doctors, but only on a technicality.
While it's a fairly uneven show all things considered, I lean toward positive because the lines that land were howlers, and while there were a few duds I was never not smiling. The short was heavenly, though they were obviously having technical difficulties at the beginning which was throwing their timing off, they certainly saved it by the end.
When I left the show I was eager to check out the other Doctor Who riffs they did, but it looks like they lost the rights to those films. Too bad. I imagine they were fun too. I might even have to check out the series as well, which is what I was afraid my reaction was going to be. I've always been hesitant about getting into Doctor Who because I knew that large chunks of the series were lost and as a fanatic that would drive me bonkers. I might have to start with the revival and maybe work my way backwards if I like it. At least that run is complete.

Well the first actor to play the Doctor had been dead for nearly a decade at that point, so unless you wanted them to do some grave robbing. Tom Baker didn't want to come back, as he had left the role barely two years before. All you see of him is actually footage of a "lost" episode that was never actually finished because of a strike at the BBC. The early years of the show are well worth checking out. Many missing stories have been recovered over the years, and those with episodes still missing have been completed using animation paired up with the audio tracks recorded off air by devoted fans back in the 1960's. A lot of the DVD's are out of print and expensive ebay fodder these days unfortunately.

I thought The Five Doctors was a pleasant surprise and they did a good job of making sure you didn't have to be a Whovian to enjoy it, while getting those in jokes in there.
Man, the Brits do NOT play when it comes to safety shorts! "There, children, you see you shall die quite a horrible death, yes indeed, should you come within fifty feet of a power line. Now pip pip, time for elevenses!"
Also, the BBC's version of a lavish 20th anniversary special is...let's say, different from what you'd think. "Call it the Five Doctors! What, that one died? Well, here, bung this crabby old English teacher into the outfit and give him a curly Prince Valiant, problem solved! Dress everybody as though Fabrege Eggs and crystal unicorns had babies! That one guy doesn't want to come back? Dig up three minutes of old footage--am I the ONLY ONE thinking creatively here? And don't spend more than eleven pounds on the sets, the mime we hired to dance around in front of that cave ain't cheap!"
Hell, I died once already!
