It is more or less the same people who made a fuss over Pacific Rim's Gipsy Danger. To a point where the writer spoke out, saying he didn't know it was a slur, and didn't intend any illness by it. So for the sequel, they changed the robot's name- to Gipsy Avenger. How about that?
Perhaps real progress will be made by not changing the name, but the reaction to it. There will always be taboo words, but holding negative meanings to a name where it isn't being used negatively isn't really making progress. It's just shaming something that wasn't trying to hurt anyone.

Seriously, what the hell? Are these people even fans of the show? It's never been used in a derogatory way, and Gypsy has always been a positive character, not to mention the smartest. Just a quick google search shows a bunch of people on facebook named Gypsy.
