The visuals of the new show are great! It's a larger scope, but still has that handcrafted look. A bit more like the 'Supermarionation' shows Joel loved as a kid.

I'm really, really excited about the new series. Can't wait to see my little buddy Crow on the screen once again!

Well, I may get piled on here. I was trying to stay positive & open to the relaunch, even though I didn't see how the hell you could recreate such a classic. After watching the trailer (an admittedly small sample) I'm even less hopeful. New formula Coke, anyone...?

Pile on hippiecop! I kid. I hope you're wrong, too. Looks fun to me. Just maybe not quite as fun as the original.

Shouldn't be any dog piling. Different people have different reactions. It's just nature, especially with change of something beloved. It happened when they moved to Sci-Fi, it happened when Mike took over, hell there was even that one guy who sent in the I HATE TOM SERVO'S NEW VOICE banner.

Looks awesome! They definitely still have the cheesy look and feel of the show. Though I will say I'm a bit disappointed they're filming it at 24fps from what it looks like. 30fps would have been preferable to add a cheesier look to the frame rate. Eh, 30p may look fine for host segments, but it wouldn't be great for the movies. Assuming there's no made for TV taped stuff in the lineup, the movies should be running exclusively at 23.976 frames per second. Having the show match that frame rate leads to consistency. MST3K: The Movie was done this way. The old show was done on NTSC video - meaning that it was 30 interlaced fields per second. That's 60 discrete images per second. Film presented in that format has a 3:2 repeating pattern for frames. With 30p, you lose that pulldown pattern, resulting in irregular frame repeats and a generally jerky looking movie - and all that jerking around might cause a flame out. Netflix can't stream interlaced content. Now, they could bob-deinterlace it to a smooth 60 fps, but if I'm not mistaken, they can't stream anything higher than 30 frames per second. While I'd certainly prefer the classic 30i framerate - it gives the subtle effect of watching someone watching a movie, rather than just watching the movie - 30p wouldn't be a terribly comfortable viewing experience.

Well, for long-time MSTies like us, it won't be as fun as when we discovered the show for the very first time. Still, there's a new generation of fans out there who WILL be discovering it for the first time, so let's hope it manages to capture enough of the original show's spirit so it reels new fans in the same way the old show did with us.

This is the hope. Even if us old fans don't like it, we had nearly two hundred episodes to call our own. We had no hope of ever seeing more outside of Rifftrax or Cinematic Titanic, and we were mostly content with that. This show shouldn't aim at us. It needs to try and recreate that effect that effect of someone tuning in at random, arching an eyebrow, wondering just what the he'll you're watching, and then just laughing yourself silly. It just needs to do so in a modern context, which I believe it's doing. It's very possible that I myself may hate the new season, but I will not be upset that I invested $200 in it. The experience has been wonderful, and I'm curious to see what has been cooked up. Plus because of all of our efforts two of the lost KTMAs have been uncovered, and that I feel is worth the trouble of fourteen extra episodes that I potentially might not gel with. I'm fairly optimistic that I'll enjoy the new series. I like the trailer, and as has always been the case for me, the movies themselves are part of the appeal, and as long as they hit me with something weird and crappy, I'll probably come back for more.

and as has always been the case for me, the movies themselves are part of the appeal, and as long as they hit me with something weird and crappy, I'll probably come back for more. This has always been my feeling as well. In fact, I've gone on record stating that my enjoyment of an ep breaks down to somewhere around 40% movie--as in is the movie is a fun cheesy movie; 40% riffing; and 20% host segs. Which has always been my issue with RiffTrax--they don't have any host segs at all, and they often pick god awful movies I would never dream of watching unriffed, so they are starting at 60% down out of the gate for me. The host segs for this look like they're keeping to the old feel, so my fingers are crossed there, but the move selection (if 'the list' does actually prove to be correct, which is looking pretty good from the trailer) looks like an out of the park home run.

The trailer looks really awesome!
Seeing the set design of outer space in HD looks really cool.
(On another note, it looks like Gypsy is going to be hanging from the ceiling in this revised show).
