Wait, what!? Who was it? It looked just like her... from the tiny window on my computer screen. Other folks have thought the same. She looks similar and her outfit is similarly colored.

It's Rebecca Hanson, who (according to the credits, so not a spoiler) is playing a character named Synthia.

Ah, okay, I just looked again after watching on the tv and I see now that it is not Pearl. Weird choice to have a similar costume, but I guess it was a little nod/callback to Pearl?
Well now I am really looking forward to Pearl's cameo!

Alrighty, just finished streaming our brand new bundle of joy with my brothers, and after the initial happiness of seeing the show again, the riffing did not disappoint. There were down spots during dialogue, but I can get wrapped up in the movies themselves so that's fine by me. Overall they really seem to get it. They aren't using all old jokes, and the stop motion is clean but familiar. Overall, they're nailed it and my money went to the right place.
Opening was fine, established the premise and kept on going in true MST3K fashion: here's why Jonah is here, and right to the invention exchange. Boom, boom, boom. Door sequence is really cool, with everything going on on the sides, plus the doors are the numbers. Also, Crow has an extra head... All the voices were great, love the several Toms Baron plays. Jonah seems a touch less inventive than Joel, but more nerdy and definitely more respected by the bots than Mike. He's a fine addition to the bridge.
The riffing itself is solid, with the dead zones made up for by quick fire jokes. Some of them are payoffs(Who says I can't drive the tank with my feet...Why would I drive the tank with my feet!) While others are witty (Yes, my human name is Ib!) Lots of great material. Favorite: "How about Reporticus ShutUpicus!" and "No, these are glasses. The Professor was much taller.(Zucker/Zucker/Abrams esque)" Also loved the song: funky, creative and, for me, made it clear the writers weren't going to make political jokes like many naysayers of Kagan thought (Trump could've been the punch line to the song but he wasn't. Its almost like....people overeacted to a former Daily Show writer's presence!) Anyway, solid 8/10, return to the series and a dopey but watchable movie to boot. Ready as anyone for Season 11! Huzzah!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go mix a gallon of reptile drugs.

Felt the new riffing rhythm a lot more on second viewing.
I felt they would need an excuse to do the commercial sign stuff with no commercials, but they just did it with no explanation and it works perfectly well. Love the bumpers with Max and the Boneheads - totally riffing on the channel ident bumpers you used to see.

Remember, Kinga plans to sell MST3K to Disney someday, so it makes sense she would make her experiments TV friendly should Disney want to rerun season 11 on The Disney Channel.

Was Netflix a done deal when they were in production? Having commercial bumpers seems a prudent move, just in case they did get a network interested in airing the show down the road.

The Netflix deal was announced in July and they started shooting two months later. In the Q&A, Joel said he kept the commercial bumpers since he knew a lot of people discovered the show on VHS/DVD which (for the most part) have those bumpers intact.

Well since some Netflix shows have later featured on cable channels like Orange is the New Black, and season 4 of Arrested Development....maybe if would be a smart move to have those commercial bumpers anyway. They oddly were one of the things I actually like better in this new series, I hope is we get a season 12 that they keep that style of commercial bumper.
I will say I really agree that the only part of the production design that was a touch underwhelming was the SOL set, which I hope they makes improvements for in future seasons. It wasn't terrible (better then the season 1 SOL set) but it was kinda bland, I think it might look a little better if it was lit slightly darker....the season 6 maybe (maybe not as dark as the scifi era) but it does need some random objects stuck on the walls. Actually I think the Mads set was a little too brightly lit too.
Also I don't think us being nitpicky is inherently a bad thing, I have probably been the most critical person so far and I fully admit that I liked it quite a bit. However I think it's best to give feed back on how well we feel it all came together, particularly since the show is trying to re-establish itself. These are things that might be retweeked in future seasons, I think we all want the show to be a success......even though I think it might be hoping too much for Gypsy to be more like she used to be.

WEEEE!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed episode #1101. I've been wanting MST to riff REPTILICUS since I first saw it as a kid and it did not disappoint! I felt the riffing was top-notch, there were quite a few laugh-out-loud riffs for me. The host segments were cute and the production value (especially the little stop-motion bits) was still 'homemade' enough to feel like the MST we know and love. Love the new doorway sequence too!
I am SOO pumped for the rest of the season!

Given that Shoutfactory already had the rights to Reptilicus I was suspecting for some time that would be an movie we'd see riffed and I wasn't disappointed. It was certainly a good choice as an experiment to open with. If the leaked list of movies is accurate then we have a strong selection of movies for those series. Also the "Moving right along" bit made me further think of how much I'd love to see Crow and Servo with the Muppets........I seriously can't be the only one who wants to see that!

I imagine Netflix was already in the loop since Max informs Kinga that Netflix doesn't get ratings. Unless that was shot later. It's really weird to hear them refer to Netflix and Kickstarter in the show. - A little thing I heard in the live Q&A that I didn't see mentioned- there is a evolving story, so it would be best to watch the episodes in order. It seems to involve development with the Mads.

I think the semi-meta narrative is great, and in some ways an extension of the vague "Your ratings are down!" admonishments from Dr. F, who also explicitly referred to "Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes" in the Turkey Day bumpers. It also fits in nicely with Kinga's more corporate brand of evil.

Hell I plan to watch them in order, particularly since this it my only opportunity to as I only found out about the show long after it went off the air. It never aired here in Australia back in the day so I'm still really only playing catch up via the DVD's.

I wonder what they were doing in the end in those white lab coats with the boneheads loading the completed movie into that contraption. Anyway, as for how the new show continues from the old one: I never thought they'd lean into that at first. I kinda guessed the first episodes would lay down the premise for newbies and we wouldn't get many explanations for the continuity (how the bots got back on the satellite) until everything was situated.
