Started off bad. The riffing was to the point they were almost walking on each other. Riffing pace tiring. Laughed a couple of times. Fell asleep (maybe it was my long workday). So far the score is 5 out of 9 eps liked.

They were firing on all cylinders with this one. I'd seen this on VHS eons ago, and only remembered the Yeti thing and the most cheapo sets I've ever seen in any movie. This makes Outlaw (Of Gor) look like a David Lean epic! The sequence with the flying lion creature is from a totally different Corman/New World film whose title escapes me, yet I recall it was R rated.
Max's journal bit made me laugh. Not sure what they're building up to with his secret love for Kinga, and now finding a mysterious creature living in that hatch in the roof.
Interesting that there were multiple Crows instead of Servos for the song skit. The Masters Of The Universe style box for the cavern playset skit at the end was a nice touch.

Revisiting this one, it doesn't quite hit the mark of YONGARY but it has its moments. I was surprised there wasn't a collective chuckle at when Gulfax is revealed. It's lack of moments like that which keep the new season from having a more "organic" feel to the riffing. I do love the moment when Jonah slams the bots heads together after they won't stop making Crypt keeper voices at one point, that was great.
One thing: The Crabby the Hat joke should have been a ONE TIME riff. Seriously. It didn't seem anywhere funny enough to warrant being a re-occurring joke.
Something fun from the IMDB:

I liked the crabby jokes. But, I've always been a sucker for running jokes (They triiieeed to kill him with a forklift!)
I have seen the rifftrax version. I actually forgot and about 10 minutes in or so I'm like, "I have so totally seen this before." So, I went and found it in my RiffTrax library and watched a few minutes and, Gawd, are you guys not missing anything. I pulled it up and clicked to about 10 minutes in to the scene I had just watched--first riff out--a dick joke. Then some kind of anal wart joke. And I was like--oh right, this is why I'm all but done with RiffTrax and why I'm so glad MST3K is back.
BTW, if anyone would like to borrow my ep of the RiffTrax version, feel free to message me.

I am always impressed with the diversity of tastes among the MST3K fans. I really don't like this episode. When the movie is, by itself, bad enough (which is tough to define, I admit), I have a very hard time getting into the spirit of the show, and this, for me, is one of those. Ditto the sequel, and double-ditto for Starcrash. Not too crazy about Avalanche or Carnival Magic either, for the same reason. I've given them all several passes, but those are the bottom of my barrel. Why do I take a pass on Wizards of the Lost Kingdom, and enjoy Deathstalker? The more I ponder the less I feel I can explain it, but there you are.
