Still getting caught up with my episode reactions.
Years ago, I reviewed "Yongary" for the old Even Deeper Blurting board. My opinion hasn't changed. It's still a pretty lousy movie that doesn't measure up to the standard product from Jspan. Yes, some of the effects are OK, but others are very lame (the nozzle in Yongary's throat, for instance). While it does deliver in the city wrecking department, it just doesn't work. And Ichio, on his own, is worse than any other Monster Child in the genre, or group of them thereof. He reminds me of the exchange from "San Francisco International" after Davey lands. DAVEY's MOM: How can we ever thank you? RIFF: You hold him, and we'll punch him.
I thought the episode turn out fine. The riffing was great, and the host segments worked OK. I've never flipped over a desk at home or work, but I'd get the tiny desk so I could do it just once. And the closing song re: Yongary's sad death scene worked very well. (Oh, speaking of that scene, we really need a "Girl in Lovers Lane"-type rewrite for that sequence.)
This was one of the better ones, I thought.

I love how everyone's shaken by Yongary's death at the end. Poor old Yongary, the monster that dies bleeding out of his butt, never meant to do no harm...

I loved this episode even more upon re-watching. It has really solid riffing throughout IMO, so many laugh-out-loud moments.
Here's hoping they can get ahold of X FROM OUTER SPACE for Season 12!

Must...resist...urge...to...point out...that...as...Korean film...Yongary...is...not...a...kaiju movie... ?? Kaiju is certainly a Japanese term, but I see no reason why the term can't be used on any movie that it describes. The beasts in Pacific Rim are actually called Kaiju in the movie.

Kaiju is certainly a Japanese term, but I see no reason why the term can't be used on any movie that it describes. The beasts in Pacific Rim are actually called Kaiju in the movie. My comment was a joke referencing how people who love Japanese media get so offended if it is used to describe something American or if American terminology was used to describe something Japanese. Believe me, I have had people in the past get utterly offended at my referring to Manga being the same as a comic book, even though Manga is literally the Japanese word for comic. It's silly, but this subculture exists. Just don't call an Anime a cartoon. That's a sh*tstorm you are not ready for. And thank you for making me explain my sarcasm. Now it's no longer hilarious, which it certainly was until now.

What do you think the Comic Book Guy gif was for? Actually graphical representation of you making the comment? ... If one uses a Simpsons gif, it's usually for humorous effect. Should Simpsons gif be that of Comic Book Guy, it's usually used as parody of nerd culture. This is INTERNET LAW!!!

I am having a hard time enjoying the ultra-cheap knockoffs like "Starcrash" and "Wizards" I and II, but Yongary worked better for me. The other movies I mentioned are just so cheap and cheesy that I am distracted from any attempt at riffage.
