I don't think I've ever been much into compiling wishlists of movies I think the show "should" have done. I trust the show to make that judgment for itself. But if I did I'm pretty sure Yongary would have been on it. Please note that I would have been talking about both the original and the remake (yes there was a remake, it was released in the US as Reptilian...and it's even worse) but whatever Yongary you get will likely have it coming.
The movie selection in this episode has echoes of Gamera and the riffing maintains that playful edge giant monster movies get, whether they're from Japan or in this case South Korea. The funniest scene in the episode for me was the honeymoon scene, with the failure of liftoff riffs in full effect. The episode never quite reaches that peak again and has a bit of a downward slope in laughs as well. Some of Yongary's early scenes delight, but as the film goes on they seem to struggle with it.
It's weird. In Reptilicus, Beast of Hollow Mountain, and Land That Time Forgot I found that the episode got funnier when the monsters were onscreen. Yongary is a bit of the opposite.

I can't disagree that the riffs are stronger and pre-monster rampage, but even the second half had plenty of belly-laughs. As funny as some previous eps were, this is the first time I've felt the guys really channelling Mike/Joel and the original bots in the theater. As you said, the first half (honeymoon scene in particular) had me crying-laughing. The Beastie Boys and Wes Anderson riffs were on target, too. But even if the peak came early I found myself consistently tickled throughout. And the guys finally start loosening up and laugh in the theater! I just posted yesterday grumbling about how they never do this anymore. . .so that was good timing.
Maybe it helped that it followed Loves of Hercules, which I didn't really care for at all, but this one shoots up to a Top 3 position to me for now. Really enjoyed it.

Loved this one, YONGARY has been on my riffing wish list for some time. I'm so glad they had the same horrified reaction I did to the poor monster's demise and made a big deal out of it in the end segment (in classic MST fashion).
So far I've been very satisfied with the new season. I like it very much.

After 2 not so hot episodes in a row this was much more like it, certainly a pretty solid episode, maybe my third favourite so far! I feel the now they really seem better with their riff pacing then they did early on this season, and this episode seemed to have less issues with riffs pausing during dialogue heavy scenes....and issue that was quite noticeable in a couple of the previous episodes. On top of that Yongary has always been a movie I thought was prime material for MST3K, all in all I was pretty happy with this one!
Went through my second viewing of this last night. Even tho I ranked Avalanche at the top, I feel like this might actually be my favorite episode of the season. I can't count the number of times I've tried to watch Yongary. I love giant monster movies, but Yongary was just so generic with no drama or real plot. The monster gets plenty of screen time but it gets stale, especially with such a dull design. So I'm glad that there's finally a version of the movie that I can enjoy beginning to end. I really enjoyed the riffing here, and I laughed at more of the same jokes than I have with any of the other episodes I've rewatched so far. Plus a caught a few new ones. Jonah and the bots feel a little more casual in this episode, they crack up several times. The host segments were not the highlight of the episode, with the only memorable skit being Yongary Nights. I did like how they tried to sing to cheer themselves up from that really awkward moment with the monster's death.
8/10, it's MST3K, it's a giant monster movie, what more do I need?

Being a huge Kaiju fan, this is my favorite episode of season 11 (followed by Reptilicus). Yongary is like Gamera's crazy Korean cousin, even being followed by a weird kid in tiny pants. Even the creator of Yongary's suit thought it looked goofy and unconvincing. And, of course the riffing was outstanding. I love everything about this episode.

Ah, another cheap Japanese rubber monster movie with awful English dubbing. I'm waiting to see how triggered Keukdong Entertainment is going to be from seeing a guy and two robots make fun of their precious rubber-suited monster like Toho and Kadokawa.
The riffing started off a bit slow, but it began to pick up and I was really laughing towards the end! I loved the jokes they made about the monster's weight and him throwing a tantrum when he's on his back. I also loved the numerous music jokes in this one (especially Michael Jackson's "Bad" and "Low. Ri. Der") and the Barney the Dinosaur and Shining Time Station jokes. The one about the Earthquake with Gypsy coming in unamused was also funny.
The host segments were a little forgettable in my opinion (though I did like Crow's performance as the monster and the song at the end was cute; kind of felt like Red Zone Cuba).
Since Satellite News' first draft episode guide came up, I'd like to share a little tidbit.
I actually remember seeing a fan riff of Yongary on YouTube years ago (I don't remember what the name of the fan riff group was and I'm not sure if they're still around). The guys did an above average job with their jokes though it was nothing to write home about as you would expect from a fan effort. I still remember some of the jokes ("Richie Rich gone psycho!", "Al Gore makes it happen!", "Dance Dance Revolution: Monster Mix"), so seeing the official take on it was interesting in terms of how differently the material would be handled.
In fact, there were a few riffs in the MST3K episode that were similar to the fan riff. They both had jokes about Yongary throwing a tantrum and him attempting to do "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes", though they were not exactly the same. Sadly, I don't think the amateurs made a big deal of Yongary's death than Jonah and the 'bots did.
I know this is not the only film this season that fans previously took a shot at (how many people riffed Starcrash?), but seeing a past attempt makes you wonder how better the real deal is and it makes for a different experience than seeing a film for the first time with the crew.

The best kaiju episode the show has ever done. I am not a big fan of the kaiju episodes of old because the riffing was never enough to compensate for the mind numbing familiarity and predictability of the kaiju formula. It seemed like their fix for that was to cram a joke into every corner of Reptilicus (with mixed results) but on this they work on a more relaxed pace and knock it out of the park.. I don't find the 'Capsule' joke to be that great but overall what an great episode and the movie is actually a bit surprising at times.. I didn't expect Yongary dance sequences, people pouring alcohol over their head, and the bloody end of Yongary. Also the movie looked great on the widescreen HD.
