Currently watching this one.
They edited the poopie out of the movie. Like...this movie was incomprehensible to begin with, but...man. At least the first 20 minutes are.

I just saw a major celebrity in a host segment of MST3K.
Never thought I'd see that.
And it wasn't the celebrity I thought it would be.

Hmm. Overall felt like a weaker episode. Riffs were fairly "meh". Sketches were fairly "meh." Pacing was ok. Just kind of middle-of-the-road. I think the cut-all-to-hell nature of the movie didn't help much.

So cool to see MST finally take on STARCRASH! It is too bad they can't leave the movies uncut (but it's not like that's anything new). The Jerry Seinfeld cameo was great.

After all the Seinfeld hatred I've read on this board, now that Jerry has guest starred in an episode MASS CHAOS WILL ENSUE!
I really dug this episode. Granted the daffy movie was exactly my bag (I knew this was my favorite movie yet when I saw all the space bikinis everywhere) and I got a lot of jollies. Host segments were pretty great too, and it's fun to see Crow back at screenwriting.
I'd say this one was right up my alley. And I got to be honest, I got more joy out of his movie than I did today's Star Wars trailer. Or anything Star Wars for that matter.

Not my favorite episode, but that BB-8 payoff was hilarious. "Those Lucasfilm lawyers move so fast" "They said they'd smash my globe". Making fun of Disney's aggressive legal tactics is always a gold mine.

This episode was alright, but really not a patch on the last two. The riff pacing in general still seems a lot better but aside for a few really laugh out loud moments it doesn't stand out that much. It's not a bad episode and I did enjoy it, but I don't think it's one I'll find myself coming back to a lot. I will say most the riffs centered around Caroline Munro getting defrosted where absolute gold, my favourite being "now whoever she sees first, she'll imprint on and assume as her mother", that one had me in stitches.
Also as dodgy a movie as Starcrash was, John Barry composed a really good score for...I mean not as good as John Williams work on Star Wars, but by far the most impressive part of the whole production!

The editing didn't bother me....since I'd never seen the original!
Personally, I loved this one. The movie was fun to watch in it's own right (while still being unbelievably awful), and I laughed out loud at much of the riffing. I didn't get the feeling they were rushing their riffs in this one as much as in some of the others, so pacing wasn't a problem here for me. Felt more like one of the original shows. Also, all of the annoyed riffs at Elle the Robot's expense 100% put me in mind of the original show! Not as consistently on-target as Avalanche, perhaps. . .but Top 3 for me so far.

Totally agreed with the last post--aside from the fact that this was possibly the most active and "experimental" in terms of in-theater prop use and screen interaction so far, from the host segments to the riffing to the pacing this felt the most like classic MST3K. I'd put this one up against any episode from any era, and the best of the season so far.

I started to rewatch select episodes last night and this was the one I choose to start with. My first viewing was very middle of the road for me, but I liked it a little better with my second viewing. The movie has fun effects, dopey characters, and is rather sexy but the dialog is horrendous. At last, Hasselhoff on MST (this season is full of stars). I haven't seen the movie before so I don't know what was cut out, but I do own the Blu-ray which I was planning on checking out next month. I'm pretty curious to see if the MST edit made it more tolerable or if it actually makes it worse than it really is. The riffing is decent. I laughed occasionally with my first viewing. With my second viewing there were a few jokes I laughed at again and several jokes I missed last time. The one part that probably bugs me the most is when the spaceships are coming out and they're giving them toy names and it goes on for a whole minute. The host segments are fine. BB-Servo was a hilarious invention exchange that really reminded me that this show was made only a few months ago. In fact, all of the modern references catch me by surprise because I'm so used to MST3K being set in the 90's. The Mads' invention was probably the lamer one. The World War Space segment really reminded me of Earth vs Soup, and furthermore showing that only Crow's voice has changed. Jonah gets into a couple of costumes in this episode, the way he plays the parts reminded me of Joel. I always wanted Seinfeld to appear on MST3K due to his relation with Joel, but I just don't find the guy to be a terribly good actor. It was still a fun appearance, but probably not as well-played as the other celebrity cameos.
Overall I give this episode 6/10. Not the best or worst of the season, but one that's just good enough to keep revisiting.

I couldn't get through Starcrash. The movie simply bored me to tears, and the riffs did not help me out. Now I've read that Seinfeld does a cameo and I have to go back in and try again.

I'm halfway through this one. So far, episode of the season for me. However, I can't help but notice that portions of the movie are running at a lower frame rate. Can anyone familiar with the unriffed version weigh in on this? Was this some sort of attempt at making the movie seem more otherworldly, or did the MST3K editors screw something up?

I honestly think the riffing is really getting better! I really loved all the references they made in this one, from the Muppet jokes to music jokes (Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire", Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall" and Van Halen's "Jump") and the Bionicle joke. I also loved the joke with the stop-motion robots sneezing. I really loved Crow's script with the Candy Land characters; felt like a throwback to "Earth Vs. Soup." Great episode! But a random note, is it just me, or is the movie itself really choppy in some parts?

I only noticed such a thing during effects shots. I think it's the fault of the way the effects were done originally, slowing down the action by showing each frame twice.
