Do I need a specific kind of player on my laptop or program to play the new episodes?

Nope. On desktops/laptops, Netflix runs through your web browser.

It keeps saying I need something called Silverlight Player to view shows.
The problem is, I can't download it because I don't remember my macbook password, and I don't know how to reset it.

Do you have a blu-ray player with apps or a smart TV? If you do you can stream directly to your TV.

You may already have it, but it could be disabled. I assume you've already searched for Silverlight at help.netflix.com and taken these necessary steps?

Oh, right. It's been so long since I started Netflix I forgot what plugin it required. If Silverlight is an across the board requirement, you're probably going need to have password access to your Mac to get it installed.

Silverlight is still required? I thought they switched to HTML5.
