Uno: Having never streamed a show on Netflix, I have a rookie question: Are there commercial breaks on Netflix? If not, "Commercial sign!" and "We'll be right back" won't be things we'll be hearing in the new show, nej?
Zwei: Will the show be using clean, digitized movie prints to riff, or will they be working from old, ragged, badly edited, 16mm quality prints -- like the old show did? To me, the sad state of the old prints added to the charm and made for more solid riffing moments. (Example: Girl In Gold Boots.)

They have something that acts like a commercial sign and the prints are of much better quality than what the old show used.

Commercial sign is no more, however during the theater segments there at little bumpers where the commercials would normally go that feature Patton Oswalt usually commenting on the movie. During the host segments we just go up the doorway to the bridge, segment plays out, movie sign, back down the doorway.
The prints so far are definitely much cleaner than the show used to provide. But this was to be expected since Joel wanted HD movies for these episodes to help newbies pick the series up. There are a few riffs on certain print elements in the first episode though.

Another general question. Consider these two scenarios:
You're a Joel-Trace-Kevin era (or later) fan seeing a KTMA or Comedy Channel Season 1 episode for the first time.
versus
You're a Joel-Trace-Kevin era (or later) fan seeing a Season 11 Netflix episode for the first time.
Which scenario do you think would require a bigger adjustment on the part of the viewer? ("Wow, this isn't the MST3K I'm used to seeing!")

KTMA/Season 1 would be more jarring, I think.
While the new season has a whole new cast, different aspect ratio, and higher production value than ever before, it's got the heart and soul of that classic era of MST3K. The voices are different, but the style and pacing of the riffing is just like it was in the golden era. There's a slight adjustment phase to be sure, but straight out of the gate, everything feels right. It IS MST3K. Old familiar feelings will return to you, and swiftly.
The earliest episodes of the show just don't measure up to what followed. I have a soft spot for the charm of those first two seasons, but it's just so... slow. Long periods of dead air between riffs, and a generally unpolished delivery of the lines when they do come - it just isn't as funny as the lazer-guided scripting they developed over the course of the show. Going from, say, Cave Dwellers to SST Death Flight - it's the same show, but it doesn't have the same impact. Whereas, you could jump from Space Mutiny to episode 1106 and feel like almost nothing has changed at all.

Early episodes took more adjustment to me, but I grew up watching Sci-Fi episodes. I adapted quickly to the new episodes because as I worked backward through the series change was always present in the show for me. But for a fan of seasons two through five, it's tough to say since those early episodes still have Joel and Trace.
Tone-wise I'd say the new season is probably closest in style to the fourth season, with some of The Movie mixed in as an added flavor, while retaining a dash of early season awkwardness that subsides the further it goes on.
