As of June 27, 2017, Photobucket is now charging $399/year to allow 3rd party use of images (i.e. forum usage). This is a slight up-charge from their previous price of ZERO DOLLARS!!!
As a regular user of photobucket since its inception, all of my images on this board-- dating back to November of 2003-- are now gone from our forum. This includes Halloween costumes, contest threads, meet-up photos, and avatars.
I understand the need for them to change policy and make a profit. But an increase of $399 with no warning, after almost 15 years of a growing inventory of storage? That's highway robbery. Color me pissed.
I also understand the need for me to get with the times and use a more contemporary service for my 3rd party storage needs. Any suggestions?

Yeah, it's a move that's getting less than rave reviews around the world. Every photo I have posted on this forum is also Photobucket.
And that price point is beyond unreasonable. Highway robbery is putting it exactly right.

No way I'm paying that. Photobucket is now dead to me.

For Your Consideration
They must be close to bankruptcy to pull a quick money grab like this and ruin their name and reputation.

I've had a Photobucket account for many years but have noticed of late the site is incredibly slow with many pop-ups now added to the mix. This news cements the deal for me to say adios. This cash grab is a desperate act that will not go well.

I just hope this doesn't start some kind of dangerous trend
"sign up with Youtube for 400 dollars a year and you'll get to post videos on other sites!! WOW!!"

The extortion might be a little worse. I read the terms of service ( photobucket.com/terms). This is what it said as of June 28: Types of Accounts, Pricing and Limits " Visiting : There is no cost to visit the Site or to register as a Member. Free account : Each individual Member gets one free account that provides 2 GB of free storage or space available for your original photo files, or videos under 10min. The free account does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting. If a free account Member exceeds their Content Limit, their account will be immediately suspended and they will need to become a “Paying Member” (defined below) in order to continue accessing their account. You can upgrade to a Plus account at any time. Ad-free Account : The Ad-free Account offers Members the ability to use the Site without seeing any third party banner advertisements when logged into your Ad-free Account (note, viewers of your images within Photobucket will see ads unless they, too, have Plus accounts and you will continue to see Photobucket offers and announcements). This account level is available for $2.49 / month, payable by the Member on a monthly recurring basis. Plus Account : The Plus Account offers several paid options that may give the Paying Member more storage, bandwidth, 3rd party image hosting, image linking and/or other services as outlined below. Once and during such period of time in which you subscribe to and pay for a Plus Account, we will consider you a "Paying Member." Please note that all Plus Account subscriptions are billed annually at the commencement of the service. Photobucket may also offer a monthly billing option for its Plus Accounts (see terms and restrictions, below)." This sentence spells it out for me: If a free account Member exceeds their Content Limit, their account will be immediately suspended and they will need to become a “Paying Member” (defined below) in order to continue accessing their account. Several board headers and avatars already have been nailed. I'm in the process of downloading all images to ensure they're not made unavailable, i.e. held hostage to make me a paying member. I encourage all to do so and to read the full new TOS.

I already have my own web space. I spend $10 per year just to noodle around doing personal projects and saving cookie recipes. All the images I've used here or other places I host myself on my own space. Years ago I used an image host site (not Photobucket) but it folded without warning. After that I didn't want to try another host, although I did investigate Photobucket. Now I'm glad I didn't go with them.

So is there any free alternative to Photobucket? That's all I have ever used.

So I cleaned out my Photobucket catalog. It was a fun trip down memory lane. It's not too difficult to just download the entire library (you have to do .gifs and vids individually). Just be ready for a ton of interrupting ads that makes scrolling a pain. I opened up an imgur account, which is pretty seamless. I also switched over all of the headers and banners around here, so we don't have to look at those infuriating Photobucket warning icons anymore. However, I'm sad that all of the old threads with images in them-- like Halloween costumes, contests, and meet-ups-- are now worthless. Methinks I might repost all of the fun history in new threads. Like this classic: Or this one: Or this:
