I really loved the first season, and the second season was decent. It definitely is a kick in the face of nostalgia, but really the acting and writing aren't bad at all, either. The kids do a really nice job, and Wynona Rider and David Harbour have nice chemistry. Yeah, there have been tighter, less-cliched plots, but I really got into it.

Haven't watched the second season yet. That was purely my reaction to the first.
I didn't have really any problem with it. It felt more like a time killer show until shows I genuinely love come back on. The 80s nostalgia was nice, but it was more of "Hey, look at this thing! Remember this thing? We do!" as opposed to doing anything crafty or special with it like, oh say, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Though they do sometimes have a hint of it, like how the opening credits are crafted, but it usually stops there.
I didn't feel any sort of attachment to the characters. Like some Netflix shows it really felt like they were dragging one story waaaaaaaaay too long (the only consolation was it being eight episodes). Honestly it felt like it should have been a two hour movie and not a TV show.
It was...fine. I enjoyed parts of it, and other moments made me feel "Ugh, move the damn story along because I don't care about any of this." I don't feel a sense of resentment for the people who kept bugging me to watch it, like The Orville, and it definitely wasn't the HYPE then disappointment experience that Game of Thrones was, where I just watched the first ten episodes and said "Wow, I couldn't care less about ANYTHING that's going on." But I don't see why it was something I needed to watch either.

I will say that the fact they set the story in the mid-1980s paid off for me in ways greater than "remember this?" For example, nobody has a cell phone and nobody knows where everybody is at any given time with the press of a button. That can be nostalgic for those who remember those days, but it also adds a great tension that just wouldn't be the same if everyone was staring into their iPhone the entire series. Speaking of Netflix, has anyone seen "Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable"? It's a highly-controversial doc that is showing right now. I would really like to hear what others think about it, especially if you go into it not knowing anything about it. You've been warned.

I'm watching an original series called Everything Sucks, about a group of kids' first years of high school in the 90's. Only a few episodes in, so don't know how good it's going to be or not, but - the kids watch MST3K. Just thought I'd mention it. There. Wasn't that exciting?

Watched Stranger Things (both seasons) and loved it! Actually the whole family loved it.
Making my way through The Punisher at the moment and enjoying it immensely. A really good take on one of my favorite comic characters growing up.

I also loved The Punisher when I was in my comic book buying days (late 80s, early 90s), but I have to admit the quality was all over the place. I think it's been a tough assignment to bring that book to the screen, even in this golden age of television/film movie adaptation. Of course, we live in a different world than when The Punisher was at his most popular, but still. Lexi Alexander's "Punisher: War Zone" was pretty much the top of the line when it came to Punisher adaptations (of which there were a few prior to Netflix) and it has plenty of flaws. This new series is of fantastic quality, the question is can they keep it up without getting ridiculous. We'll see.

The Last Kingdom: A BBC show, featured on Netflix, based on the Saxon Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell. It's not the greatest show ever, but it is entertaining. The second half of season 2 really kicks things into gear. I'm a huge Cornwell fanboy, and while the series isn't as good as the books, it is still well done. David Dawson does a fantastic job in his portrayal of Alfred the Great. Recommended for anyone who enjoys early medieval history, action/adventure, and/or the show, Vikings.

I just binge watched the entire series of Freaks and Geeks. I loved that show. I don't know why it only lasted one season, it was good. (And, hey, Josh, Gruber, Trace and Joel ). Do you believe that was NINETEEN years ago? Sheesh. I wish they would do a reunion show. (Don't know what they would DO for it, but... ) Maybe like two episodes or something, catching up with the gang. Lindsay is a slacker Dead Head, Sam is a successful tycoon stud, Nick is a famous drummer, and the rest of the burnouts make so-so movies.

Watched the movie Mudbound about a black family and a white family and racial tensions in a Mississippi town in the final days of and end of WWII. Good movie.
Just makes you so pissed that people acted that way back then (and some still do today). Ah, humans. They suck.

Finally finished watching Dexter. I got burned out (burnt out?) after season 6 and finally finished the last 2 seasons. The last season sucked and so did the ending. They just made him too careless and stupid (kind of like what The Walking Dead is doing now to the main characters). And that whole Dr. Vogel story line just sucked ass.

Anyone watch Hap and Leonard? It's a series about two friends, a white guy and a black guy, in the 80's in Texas. It's based on a series of books. The show is currently in the 3rd season and it's on Sundance TV, but I caught up with the first two seasons on Netflix. I like the chemistry between the two leads. Good show.

My wife I binge watch more than we care to admit. Over the past couple of years, these have been our favorites:
I.T. Crowd (great ½ hour British sitcom) Detectorists (an odd, quirky comedy about people who like to do metal detecting - we've binged it several times) Broadchurch Bletchley Circle Luther Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch version) Happy Valley Shetland Black Mirror Ozark Narcos Peaky Blinders Stranger Things The Fall Daredevil Top Boy Run Peep Show (weird sitcom that I liked, but my wife hated) Master of None Breaking Bad Mad Men Sons of Anarchy Dexter Arrested Development (first 3 seasons are great - the Netflix created episodes are horrible)
Shows we attempted to watch but couldn't get into: Alias Grace Mindhunter Altered Carbon Death Comes to Pemberly
We will have to try Everything Sucks, the premise of it sounds like a show we would like.

I currently watched the first two seasons of The Santa Clarita Diet. Third season not out yet. It has it's hilarious moments.
