I can't remember a previous time when Valentine's Day and Mardi Gras were right next to each other.
And it's not too strange of a thing, I admit, but still. Seems like a peculiar confluence of holidays. I don't celebrate Mardi Gras much nowadays, but during the four years I spent living in Louisiana it was a fun family event (not like the waves of party-going chaos that they had in New Orleans), and I'm single this year though I still like the sentiment of a cultural day for enjoying one's loved ones, even if it does build up a weird kind of economic pressure that seems out of spirit for the season...
Ultimately, I don't have a point with this. I just think it's neat that we've got a pair of not-quite-forefront holidays right next to each other, and I hope everyone has a great couple of days whether they celebrate one or both or neither.

On a similar note: Easter and April Fool's Day fall on the same day this year.

It can be a family event in N.O. too.

I had no idea what a King Cake was until someone brought one to work a few weeks ago.
