Been chipping away at this episode all damn day whenever I had a free moment. Good consistent episode until the third theater segment...then it became HYSTERICAL. Wonderful season opener! I'd say it's a better premiere than Reptilicus personally.
I was a little disappointed that Mac and Me wasn't worse, considering all I've heard about it. Yeah it was bad...I guess. I'm not sure what I expected, but it didn't really seem all that special a bad movie to me.

They cut out a fair bit, particularly most of the McDonald's song and dance number for some reason.

This was a great starter episode! As others have said they've definitely improved the pacing for the riffs now, and the movie was awesomely bad and gave me some Pod People vibes. And the last part of the episode was indeed pretty amazing. Looking forward to the rest of the season!

Just started it, so I haven't read your comments yet, and might be repeating what's been mentioned, but...
Now I know why Synthia is smarter in the comics.
Opening seg was looong, but amusing.
Riffing feels a bit more free, natural, the guys enjoyed a hearty chuckle between themselves. That's nice, made the quip even funnier.

It's been two years since I've subbed to Netflix, but they offered a free month and since I wanted to check out the new series and Norm MacDonald's show I activated this evening and did watch Mac and Me. I think Jonah is quite good, but I agree with what I've seen mentioned elsewhere in this thread in that I have a hard time distinguishing between Tom and Crow. That's an issue that I never had in the past. I don't know if it's still considered Deep 13, but the lead woman is good and everyone else seems decent. But, it's been twenty years past being a regular viewer and I have moved on to Rifftrax. A lot of the things that were part of the show now seem unnecessary IMO. Coming in and out of the theater was there for commercial breaks which aren't a consideration anymore. I'm sorry, but I now like the fact that Rifftrax only does the movie and doesn't worry about basing skits and the like on the film or an invention exchange etc. I'm sure others feel differently, but to me it's enough to riff a bad movie when properly done.

Just finished watching "Mac and Me". The riffing was good and nicely-paced (really liked Crow telling Jonah what movie "Mac and Me" was really ripping off), the host segments were funny, and I liked how the cliffhanger was treated.
As for the movie, I just kept saying to myself, "This. Is. So. Stupid."

That was cute. Not amazeballs, but cute. I enjoyed it well enough. And I re-watched "All About Eve" a week ago, so when the mother said, "Buckle up" I was hoping for a Bette Davis impression and a finishing of the line... "It's going to a bumpy ride!"

The total, cheerful whoring of Coca Cola (now cures aliens!) was definitely the standout of this film. One thing that truly shocked me: the aliens brought the kid back to life, but didn't fix his legs? Usually the trope is the miraculous healing of whatever the lead kid suffers from and nobody outside the immediate family ever seems to notice or say something like "didn't you used to not be able to walk?"

I can only figure this episode was written & filmed before "Incredibles 2" was released, otherwise I figure the shot of the raccoon raiding the trash would inspire, "I bet he wants a rematch with Jack-Jack."

Is it just me, or did Jonah (accidentally?) call Servo "Baron" at one point? Did anybody else catch that?

Personal favorite joke: "When visiting Bakersfield, California, reconsider." As someone with family in Bakersfield, this made me laugh so hard. Ditto!

I thought the ep. was a great way to open S12. As was stated earlier, pretty solid riffing all the way through but then starts firing on ALL cylinders in the last act. I was laughing out loud during the final WTF scene with the naturalization ceremony!
Also, I don't have a hard time distinguishing Tom and Crow (anymore), but I will say this: I thought Baron was the weak link of the 3 riffers last season because he seemed to overdo everything. At least in this episode, he was a highlight. I hope this is indicative of how he performs the rest of the S12 because his timing/delivery was spot-on and hilarious.
Can't wait to run the rest of The Gauntlet!

This was our favorite of the season (along with ATLANTIC RIM), the movie is breathtakingly bizarre and terrifying. We laughed A LOT during this one!
I started the Gauntlet at 6am yesterday and it was the perfect way to start the day.

The riffing was great, but I don't know if anything made me howl with laughter as much as things that were just from the actual film. I mean, it's a kids movie and I'm sure the filmmakers wanted the audience laughing, but my laughs were directed at Mac and Me's big, bold attempts at humor and heart that were so aggressively strange and disturbing I'm at a loss to explain how they were filmed.
Who, who thought these ideas were good? I mean, obviously this movie had a lot more money behind it that the usual MST3K movie, and a lot of movies on the show are really just bad because there was little time and money. Mac and Me wasn't an extraordinary expensive movie, but it's obvious they had some goodly amount of time and money and yet these are the ideas they went with. They chose to go with that design for the alien, they chose for the weird effect of the aliens getting sucked up by vacuums, they chose for the ending where are wheelchair-bound child protagonist gets gunned down by state troopers, they decided to put these in the film thinking that they would appeal to children. Mystifying.
