First impression, this movie choice...was a mistake. Edit: The movie is a boring slog. I keep checking the time to see how much longer there is. Riffs have reached mild chuckle so far. Big step down from 1201.
Edit 2: Yeah. This one's a dud.
D+, maybe

I’m getting more mileage out of the jokes than you seemed to, but this is easily the most unpleasant film the show has done. I’d watch Manos 3 times unriffed before I’d watch 5 minutes of this movie on its own. And I was one of the people who was less skeptical about this pick when the list leaked. Still enjoying the episode...but the movie might make this one a rare rewatch. Though I wonder how it is for younger eyes.

While I found the riffing to be enjoyable with this episode, the movie itself was a slog to get through. It was just so bland and boring. The movies have to engage me enough for me to actually enjoy an episode, no matter how bad or stupid they are. But 'Atlantic Rim'? I found myself pausing the episode every 15 minutes or so just because the movie was lame.

A tough, tough movie to sit through. It's so boring. Mind-numbing stuff. The riffing is mostly unmemorable. Probably not the best movie choice for the show. I'm not trying to be too negative, but this has become one of my least favorite episodes in the show's entire run.

Okay, I'm going to admit that the one dude in the robot screaming "FIRE FIRE FIRE!" followed by Crow doing a Beavis voice repeating "FIRE FIRE FIRE!" made me laugh way more than it probably should have.
Ahhhh...the 90's.

I dunno, I'm half an hour into it and loving it. Then again some of my favorite episodes are RZC, Monster A-Go-Go and Beast of Yucca Flats... so maybe I'm not the best judge of episodes...

Pffft. Lightweights. I eat movies like this for breakfast.
I actually thought the movie was a good choice. If anything it reminded me of Future War, only with crappy CGI instead of crappy puppets. But the riff was fairly patchy, with the highs running REALLY high, like laugh until I can't breathe high, while lows were mostly just riding a mediocre wave.
One thing I will say for certain, when the monster was kicked into outer space and there was an explosion, causing Crow to scream "BEAST WARS!!!" I air pumped my fists and went "YES!"

I will say that the Beast Wars joke was SPOT ON.

Really great invention exchanges in this one and improved camera work on the SOL! Patton and Felicia are clicking this season.
Loved the “Armada Featuring Herman Menderchuk” joke - wonder who’s the KITH fan that wrote that one?
Some pretty good riffs throughout (Joel Hodgson?!) (Run large, adult sons!) (Who designed this monster, R. Crumb?) but I hope they don’t do any more of these new movies - leave these for the unfunny folks at Rifftrax...

^^^ I was pleased at that "featuring Herman Menderchuk" gag, also.
Some weird editing in the movie, perhaps, but, what was up with the main guy being in custody, then being in a car with the woman, and then being in custody again??
I couldn't finish this, it was too boring.

Personally I thought this one was pretty solid. I can understand, however, how it'll be polarizing for some folks. It does indeed feel a little weird to see a recent "modern" film getting riffed, and it's a really dull mockbuster at that, but I thought they got some pretty good riffing out of it nonetheless. Also that pathetic group fist bump at the end was hilarious.

I can see why this kind of ripoff quickie would be a go-to for the guys, but I think the main problem with the selection is that unlike back when the original show started, stuff like this was harder to find. It was around, certainly, but nowadays I could see crap like this, with wittier scripts, done on the SyFy channel seven days a week. Hell, the fact that MST exists was probably a big driving force in getting things like Megashark Vs. Giant Ocotpus a regular rotation spot.
They're made to be made fun of. Older ripoff stuff, like, say, Orca? Was definitely stealing an idea but had actual actors, crews, etc. and clearly were considered "real" films in their own right, which gave the riffing a better platform.
In this kind of thing everyone is hardly trying, the female lead clearly can barely stand for the oil slick shaped like a human that is the "hero" to lay a hand on her, the guy playing the Admiral was thinking, as Jonah said, that his paycheck entitled the production to one facial expression and no more, and so on. When the production itself is this lazy and halfhearted and sleazy, the jokes have to work harder to stand out.
He's like if a pukka shell necklace was a person.

Movie was fine, the riffing was fine. I didn't have a problem with either. Solid episode
