Oh good, more fart jokes.
Edit: So far, it's Avalanche in Brazil. And that's hopefully a good thing.
Edit 2: Oh boy, this song in the theater is going to split the opinions a lot of people. I am usually okay with a spontaneous song in the theater, but I'm not with the fully orchestrated song in this. It's very distracting. And I thought the song in Starcrash about a stranger's spaceship was too much, geez, that's nothing compared to this. Just do a host segment if you're going to do a full song. Like, they completely muted the movie and did a 2.5 minute, LOUD song.
Edit 3: Oh, the laser woodcuts are back.
Edit 4: There's one of those generally useless Gypsy pop-in's at the end of the movie where her line hasn't been ADR'ed in. Sloppy.
Edit 5: Why didn't they just get the original audio of Idiot Control Now?

Edit 5: Why didn't they just get the original audio of Idiot Control Now? Maybe they would've had to get permission from Trace, Kevin and Jim first? (Their voices are in it). Maybe it was just easier to just have Joel's voice?

Another decent episode. Nothing on the level of Mac and Me or Lords of the Deep, but some pretty good riffs.
It's funny, because there are some general improvements over last season, such as the pacing of the riffs, but there aren't any episodes that are quite on par with my favorites from last season. Maybe a re-watch of some of these episodes down the road will change that when I'm not focused on binging them like I am now.

GI Joe, Battle Beasts & Snorks references all in the same episode? My childhood just exploded all over MST3K!

You know, despite that movie's many, many faults, I actually enjoyed it. Really fun episode, with some rapid riffing and hot Lee Majors vs. James Franciscus action. Plus that musical number they dropped in the theater was the bomb. That's some fun experimental work they don't do very often. It does start to get overdone by bringing Growler back into the theaters a tad too many times, but I don't want to discourage continuing to introduce new ideas into the theater segments.
Well, so far in The Gauntlet Mac and Me is still the king and Killer Fish is a strong second. Let's see if they can hit a home run in the finale.

Ollie was my favorite character in this movie, but Jonah and the bots were right, there was just no way he was gonna get out of that situation.
Looking up the actor, it turns out he was in a bunch of stuff, include Star Trek (TNG and DS9), Total Recall, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, and Ahhh! Real Monsters!

First dud of the season. Not many laughs in this one for me.
Oddly, at the end when Gypsy picks up the payload, her mouth was moving but there was no sound. I put on subtitles and they showed what she said at least. Weird

I'll have to watch this a second time, but this felt like the weakest episode of the new season.
I REALLY didn't like the song bit in the theater.. it should have just been a host segment. They haven't done something like this since season 1 (when they dubbed-in the sound of someone peeing). I hope this doesn't become a regular thing. What happened to just singing with the soundtrack like The Forklift Song?
Also.. too much of the new robots during the theater segments.
"Idiot Control Now" was a very odd choice (re-recorded, no less). I would have picked "Livin in Deep 13." Still, great to see Josh on MST again!!!

Yeah, the more I think about it the less I like the song in the theater bit. Singing in the theater is fine, but a whole orchestrated number while the movie is going on is crossing the line of the purpose of the show. Tail wagging the dog.
We're there to watch the movie with commentary, not commentary with a movie. An important distinction that I feel that they are slowly losing sight of.

One of the reasons I’m actually quite fond of season 1... And why I don’t like the focus on “riffing”. I like jokes, but I like comments and observations too. And quiet moments. This season the movies have them doing too many “funny” voices and seems both overwritten in terms of quantity but underwritten in terms of quality. Which is odd because the host segments and invention exchanges were, in my opinion, hugely improved with not a cringy one or a dud that I can remember!

Another reason why I wish they had left the movies unedited, more "down-time" for comments/observations.

Wow, I must be weird (which results in creativity!) because this was probably my second favorite episode of the season, behind Mac & Me. I thought the riffing was on-point and often laugh-out-loud funny, and the movie was goofy 70's fun. The in-theater song was a bit strange, but at the end of the day it doesn't bother me. I certainly would do that kind of thing sparingly (or maybe even never again), but I have to admit I laughed at parts of it. The lyrics were actually kind of riffing on what was going on in the movie, just in song form. Overall, I really enjoyed this one, although I will agree I wish they would reign in the poopy-farty humor a bit.

This one was just okay for me. Lame movie and good-not-great riffing. I actually didn't mind the mid-movie song they did, I thought it was kinda fun. It's different, but I like how they're still experimenting with things in the reboot like this. That said, I think they could've dialed back the other sight gags they had going on, which seemed a tad excessive even for the new show; The "Hey I baked this thing" joke from the extra bots outstayed its welcome IMO. Also I enjoyed hearing Joel singing the Idiot Control Now song at the end, got a little kick out of that.
