What's your opinion on the new bots? I'd personally like to see them as backup riffers. Maybe they could enter the theater when Tom and Crow are unable to, whether due to being incapacitated or just refusing to because the movie is so bad.

I'd like to see them riff also. I believe they've said a couple of things, like Gypsy does when she's dropping in and out, but it was hard to tell. I'm pretty sure it was them, though I can't remember the lines as I've only watched these episodes once so far. Maybe they can even do a host segment with Jonah, like if Crow and Tom ticked him off and they are in the background with their mouths taped shut or something.

Growler and Waverly were a bit oddly used in season 12. Not as odd as Synthia has been since day one, but still they just seem to jump around the ship and pop into the theater whenever, and other than that they hardly did jack all season. I like both of them, but random cameo lines doesn't quite seem to be what they were made for.
And I still don't know what the hell "The Payload" is supposed to be that Gypsy is dropping into the theater.
But I will defend that musical number in Killer Fish until the day I die. Damn that was fun.

I was wary of more bots at first, but Waverly and Growler are so pleasant I just immediately accepted them and - hell - just fill the SOL with new robots!

I've only watched the first two episodes of Season 12 so far, so I'm probably not in any position to comment (things in my personal life have gotten in the way of me bothering to watch more episodes), but while it's interesting to see more robot characters on the show (and in a way, alludes to the KTMA era where supposedly there were a bunch of other robots on the ship, we just never saw them), but..... what IS Waverly and Growler's purpose really? Just for there to be two additional bots? Gypsy has a purpose, she helps maintain the ship while the others are in the theater. Do Waverly and Growler do that too?
I will say that the concept of Growler is kinda cool, due to him looking like a Muppet.

very cute additions but i wish they actually took to time to establish them better and worked them into the show more comfortably

Maybe they were just there initially for Jonah to say, oh, hey, robots, cool. I can make some, too. Then Crow and Servo were having none of it, and were like, hey, only WE get to do stuff. They can stay only if they don't get in our way.

I will say that the concept of Growler is kinda cool, due to him looking like a Muppet. Waverly was introduced as kind of a one-note character where Jonah made a bot of his own and Servo and Crow just flat out rejected him. He doesn't really serve a purpose other than being the runt of the litter. Growler's purpose is more for entertainment value. He comes in pretty handy when they decide to do a musical host segment. Neither has a practical function, but then again neither do Servo or Crow. If there is any practicality to them it's to expand Jonah's companionship on the SOL.

He'll always be Toast 9 to me...
I don't mind them. Kinda wish they'd get more screen time.
I think they both have a lot of potential, but they need more exposure before we can appreciate them in reference to themselves like we do with the other standard MST3K characters.

What does the M. stand for? Mister? Aye. It's meant to be a reference to Mr. Waverly from Three's Company, according to a message that Joel released. He happened to release it near the end of a "Name That Bot!" contest that I started running when we had an image of Waverly but no other information. I always felt a bit guilty about the timing of that.

Who was Mr. Waverly in Three's Company? Don't remember that character. That's because he wasn't in Three's Company, but the Man From U.N.C.L.E.
