I have been a fan since 1989, and have all the episodes, but I tend to neglect my KTMA episodes because I don't find them funny. Is it possible that MST3K didn't become funny until Mike Nelson came on board as head writer. What are your thoughts and the poll of your favorite episode. I want to know if I'm crazy.

I have been a fan since 1989, and have all the episodes Does that perhaps include Star Force: Fugitive Alien II? Anyway, the only KTMA episode I've watched so far is SST Death Flight. It's not a bad episode, but it is pretty slow compared to the later and greater MST3K episodes. However, I do really love the overall feel of the KTMA episodes. So, I definitely wanna check out more of them some time. The hard part is just trying to find them in decent quality.

From what I understand is that Star Force does not exist, unless Jim Mallon has a copy and won't release it. I hear only bits and pieces survived. I don't think there will be better quality for the other episodes unless they release them like they did for Green Slime, Invaders From The Deep, and Revenge of The Mysterons From Mars.

From what I understand the KTMA version of Star Force: Fugitive Alien 2 does exist in some form, but it and a lot of the other KTMA material is not in the kind of shape quality-wise that Shout feels good about releasing to fans. That and the fact that KTMA is a niche market within an already niche market, so they probably aren't in a huge rush to release them for that reason either.

Oh, I'm sure that the KTMA version of Fugitive Alien 2 exists somewhere. I just got my hopes up when Cavedweller said he had every episode, which I thought could have included K03. I think if Shout were to release KTMA's as singles or something with extra features revolving KTMA, then that would probably work well. I do not know the quality of the KTMA episodes in their (or whoever owns the episodes now) archive, but I have to imagine that they're probably better than the rips available on YouTube. K01 and K02 both looked great to me, but maybe the other ones don't look so good nowadays. Anyway, I just hope that the KTMA episodes can get released on DVD in some form in the future, even if it's unlikely. Back to KTMA episode discussion.

I find the KTMA era ok. It helps that most of the episodes (barring a few examples) have fairly watchable movies. They're not "bad" films, just cheesy films. So, the movies are easy to watch, and the fewer density of riffs just feel like a bonus.

The KTMA version of 'Star Force: Fugutive Alien II' existed up till sometime around 2008. When Jim Mallon overhauled the official website (around the same time as the flash cartoons) he included a 'Genesis' page which covered the days of KTMA and in that page were clips from the first three KTMA episodes. Those clips had never been released before and Jim no doubt had to make digital copies of the episodes so he could uploads the clips.
Seems like between then and the kickstarter, the mastertape for K03 seems to have been misplaced (hopefully) but there is the possibility of the digital copy existing, unless Jim only had digital copies of the clips made rather than the episodes.

Gonna vote for Phase IV. Then again, I've actually not seen all the available KTMAs, so I'm probably not the most informed voter. Do your research before hittin' the polls, kids!
Also, this should proooobably be in the MST3K chat section, think I'll move it over there if people are fine with that...

City on Fire is so goddamned watchable, and the riffing is lively. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it.

I have City on Fire in my folder of MST3K episodes. Maybe I'll watch it sometime this week.

The only KTMA I've seen are the first two episodes. They're watchable and worth a few chuckles. I am glad that they overhauled the process when the show went national. I wouldn't say they're not funny; they're just slower than the written episodes.

Is is bad that I can not remember a single joke from the KTMA era? I actually watched the whole thing, but I can't think of a single joke from one of the episodes. I guess if I had to choose, one of the Gamera movies, since I love Kaiju films. And for a dishonorable mention, I'd give it to Superdome as I despise any sports film that isn't the Sandlot (and probably like 2 others I can't think of) and the fact that it's horrifically boring.

It seems that the show picked up heavily on riffs after episode 8. The Mads were appearing and Kevin Murphy I noticed joined the team. I think Kevin implemented much of the hilarity.
