I mean, the truth is, digital is pretty much taking over, and we have most of the main series’ episodes on DVD now anyway. Better off just torrenting the KTMA’s at this point. I don't think that's the case. Within the past month several MST3K DVD sites have disappeared. I've yet to receive a reply from MST3K Guy. I am starting to wonder if Shout! is flexing their muscles.

I am starting to think that SHOUT is flexing. Which is a travesty. I believe in the original motto of "Keep Circulating The Tapes." or discs. Downloads, streams are fine, but for fans like me, I like to admire a visual collection on the shelf. Why go after sites when they will never release KTMA. Let us get them from MST3UK, and MST3K Guy etc if we want to. It does no harm to SHOUT since they will never release KTMA anyways. In the end the show belongs to the fans and it has always been that way.

Did he ever respond to you? No reply at all. I don't know if my email acted as a "oh! the site's down? better fix it!" reminder or what. I did notice that he really stripped down his selection and now every season points to his unreleased episodes set.

In the end the show belongs to the fans and it has always been that way. I get what you're trying to say here, but that is not correct. In the end, the show belongs to Shout, full stop. It is their intellectual property, and they have every right to enforce their copyright, whether they release certain episodes or not. We, as fans, have no rights when it comes to how that material is used. I'm glad the MST3UK site is back up. But the wild west days of MST3K bootlegging sites is over. If you don't want to miss out, I'd say pick up what you can, while you can. Or go the torrent route, but just to be clear, that's just as illegal and you can get caught doing it. The "keep circulating the tapes" thing came about because there was no official outlet for episodes at the time other than cable television. There was no commercial internet to speak of. So they encouraged people to record and share the show with friends so that they could encourage their cable companies to pick up the Comedy Channel, which the vast majority of companies did not. It was not a cry for some kind of consumer laissez faire. Really, you can also just buy the official releases, supporting Shout and giving them the confidence and resources to continue to pursue the remaining unreleased episodes, as well as keep currently-released episodes in print. EDIT: Whoops, got my quote tags screwed up and attributed the quote to the wrong person. Fixed now. Sorry for that. And interesting discussion, all.
