I just learned that Hader was strongly considered by Joel to be the host for the new MST3K. How do you think he would have done? Would he have been a good fit for the show?

He would've been a great fit. Keep in mind this was in, like, 2012 before he got really busy. So I'm not sure how tenable it would've been in the long run. It certainly would've upped the prestige factor of the show.

Not when he's still making 2 critically acclaimed shows at the same time and starting to be in films. There's no chance he's dropping any of that to work on a Netflix puppet show that only puts out 6 episodes every 18 months and still can't break even financially.

I loved Bill Hader on SNL, and he probably would have been a very fun host. But he would have been a lot quirkier than Joel or Mike -- maybe too quirky for the show (at least, for the role of the host, who needs to be more of an everyman). Still, it's an interesting thought.

Personally, I think if Jonah leaves, they should try out a female host. Kate McKinnon would be awesome on the show.

I like Bill Hader, but I dunno what I'd have thought of him hosting MST3K. He could've been a strong addition to the show, but I feel like he would be better suited playing a new Mad. It could have been interesting, but I think I'm happy we wound up with Jonah instead.
Also, seconding that I hope whoever the fourth host one day is, that its a female comedian.

I think Bill would have been a perfect fit for the revival!
But with that said Jonahs awesome and I couldn't see anyone but maybe bill in the role but him

Bill Hader is probably a pipe dream, but he certainly would have been the best impressionist in-theater since Trace. Trace really is an incredible talent and it's a shame only MSTies know who he is.

Yeah, Bill Hader's impressions are amazing. To this day I have trouble believing that he covered for Don Pardo announcing SNL for years without anybody noticing, or that he was the announcer voice in Scott Pilgrim. It'd be nice to get someone who could do impressions again.
He *is* weirdly quirky, though. I think he'd have to lean more toward the Mike end of the spectrum (actually believing he's trapped on a spaceship and trying to escape it) for it to work with him.
On that note, though, I *do* think MST3K would do very well to consider a female host when/if Jonah decides to move on.

I hate to bump this, but I've been trying to research more into it and am hitting dead end. I KNOW that the artist who worked with Joel and Trace on the reboot concept back in ~2010-2013 posted online the concept art and a summary of what the show with Bill would've been like. But I CANNOT for the life of me find it online anymore. Its like its been scrubbed off the internet. The one thing I've been able to find is this image, attached, a collage by a fan on Twitter. The bottom right image of Hader on the bridge is his edit, but the rest is all from the original artist. The new robot's name is Rodney, apparently. If anyone else has any recollection of this, or knows who the artists was, let me know. Attachments:

Andrew W. Dickman. I'm not sure how much I got of what he posted (I think it was on Tumblr) but I've got some. He said it was 2011. I've got a screencap included in the folder of what he wrote, and in part he said that originally Joel had all the original characters returning with Bill Hader: Pearl, Brain Guy, even Pitch. I hope this works, I just uploaded my folder to Google Drive. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1dv30JjLiyoiZJQ8hKPbXu74oH_Kvoy9w?usp=sharing

PERFECT. Thank you.
If I ever get off my lazy ass and get going on my long, long gestating video on the new seasons and how we got where we are, these will be useful.
