From what I can collect, most of the production costs went to...the production costs. Filming in LA. Unions. Studio rental.
If they filmed anywhere else, maybe not necessarily the Twin Cities, but outside of Southern California, they might not be able to get "big-name stars" in the cast but their production costs would be cut in half, at least.
Something has to give. Either they find a way to cut costs or they're going to film themselves into the poor house.

Well, I’ve been enjoying the new episodes and I’ll take what I can get. I’m hoping to see many more seasons, even if they are just in six episode sprints. More would be better, of course.

Personally, I'd like to see 10-episode seasons. I can watch two or three without worrying that I'll run out too fast that way.

Loved season 12, more than happy to see that become the standard format.

Several weeks ago I had a dream that a new season premiered and the premise was that Jonah and the bots discover the original SOL that Mike crashed on Earth. Turns out it was towed out to sea and dumped into the ocean. They enter the ship and get locked in, and it is then revealed that Kinga lured them there to continue the experiment. The season would take place under the ocean, and we would have a Deep Sea 13 as the new Mads lair. Lots of fish jokes and mermaids and stuff. I assume a Sharknado would be one of the movies and there would be a general water or ocean theme to the 6 episode season. Mike would cameo to rescue Jonah, and we would see Kevin and Bill's Tom and Crow meet the new Tom and Crow.

Didn't the mads offer Joel an undersea alternative to being stuck in space once? Might have been in the KTMA season...

Come on. That's ridiculous of them to try to make it look like they are TRULY losing money on this venture. Who is going to believe that they are willing to lose money out of their own pocket just for the love of bringing the show to the fans. I don't buy it for a minute...

It might not be the best business sense, but a lot of the cast and crew are definitely made up of people who're passionate about the show. One of my favorite signs that Felicia Day would be good and not just a celebrity name was that when everyone sang the theme song to celebrate at the end of the Kickstarter, you can hear her accidentally start singing the lyrics to Mike's Sci-Fi channel seasons. That's generally the kind of mistake that fans make, not the kind of mistake that people who are just there for a paycheck make. Now, I *will* grant that even fans working on projects need to admit to their own financial realities, but people paying for show expenses out of pocket isn't unheard of. Didn't the mads offer Joel an undersea alternative to being stuck in space once? Might have been in the KTMA season... This sounds familiar to me, but I just can't place it either. Hmm.

I just checked. It's in K-07, the KTMA version of "Gamera vs.Zigra". The Mads offer Joel an opportunity to come back to Earth for a new project: a man & his robots are submerged deep in the Trans-Atlantic Trench and forced to watch Jacques Cousteau movies. The segment is on the MST Scrapbook tape.

I guess I'll re-answer this question using a favorite Crow quote of mine:
One-in-crapdillion.

Unfortunately it seems like Netflix is not 100 percent behind the show
