You're welcome! I can't wait to see how Gamera Vs. Jiger turns out.

I watched it last weekend and really enjoyed it! And kudos for doing it old school 4:3 tv aspect ratio. I don't think I'd seen that particular giant turtle flick since the '70's. It had melded in my memories with another one where the "Kennys" go inside Gamera. If that's the next one, it's going to be even more disturbing than this installment was. I let out an expletive at that shocking bit of squid on turtle violence the same time Helmut and the bots did. I was surprised Daiei was already going heavy on the stock footage at this point in the series. I thought Gamera:Super Monster was the only offender in doing that. Are you guys planning on doing some non-turtle movies? I can suggest a few.

Going back and thinking on this a bit, I think a fan project like this, what with the internet and everything, could use crowdsourcing for the riffs. The main people obviously providing most of the material, but farming either sections of movie or the whole thing to people online to watch and document their riffs. All you'd need is a standardized riff format and the time-code.
Hell, that's essentially what Joel and Co. did for Season 11.

They asked for volunteers for this episode. I emailed about It, then turned nothing in due to grad school being a thing.

But, by the time they're finished, if we're still having fun and people are still watching and liking what we're turning out, we've talked about the possibility of doing 4 more. This being a total non-profit fan-film venture done completely for fun, I don't think it would have a lot of sustainability beyond just a handful, so we wanna keep that policy of quality (hopefully) over quantity. Having said that, if we end up doing more I have some great non-turtle b&w drive-in fair, a fantasy film, and a tremendous Bill Rebane Bigfoot flick on the backburner just in case. And for our second episode we'll also be riffing an old Jam Handy short before the main feature! Recommendations are always welcome!

All you'd need is a standardized riff format and the time-code. Hell, that's essentially what Joel and Co. did for Season 11. We did indeed put out a call for that over Facebook in the very initial stages of writing but it turned out...unsuccessfully. Many people contacted me with interest but I only heard from about 5 percent of them ever again beyond that. I think the skinny of it is that something like this is just a really big time commitment for everyday folks with jobs, school, lives etc to invest time into if they're not already very closely associated with it. After going over it with my cast-mates I think, for us anyway, really the best course of action is to just keep the writing crew this tight nit group. That way we can set our own pace, and dedicate whatever time we need to getting the script fine tuned. One thing I favorably look at the BBI MST (composed of 6+ writers) for as opposed to the Netflix MST (composed of 15+ alternating writers), is that there weren't "too many cooks in the kitchen" when it came to writing riffs. With just a group of us, we're able to police ourselves and sort out the jokes so that no one is stepping on anyone's lines etc, and for the most part, the people writing the riffs, will be the same people who have to perform them. So that adds to a more off-cuff kind of tone I think. Episode 1 was a top-to-bottom learning experience on the "science" of writing a movie riff, and I think we've learned from our initial trepidations, and the script for Ep2 is already turning out to be much sharper and 'full'. All of that said, we'd certainly never turn down anyone asking to be a part of contributing riffs, as any help at all is extremely appreciated haha!

Your BBI MST mentality really makes me wonder if that's part of the special sauce that the Netflix episodes are missing. They definitely feel more "produced," but it's hard to put my finger on why. The fact that you guys are developing it more like BBI MST was developed, and it turns out that it actually *feels* more like BBI MST, is interesting.

Because you can't manufacture chemistry, no matter how many big names you put together in one room.

The next episode Gamera vs Jiger premieres in August: youtu.be/yxSpzM0pzKgThe short they're riffing looks terrifying.

Hey Brayton, not sure if you still browse this site, but the 1999 remake of Yonggary would be an interesting film to riff, since MST3K riffed the original one on Netflix. You could even dub it MST3K vs Yonggary: Round 2. It was released in the states under the name Reptilian.

So far I've only had time to watch the first five to ten minutes, but the riffing is terrific. Really brings me back to MST3K in its prime.
