We had big trash pickup a couple of weeks ago. Someone was throwing out a head and foot board. I was walking, so I took the footboard. The headboard was too heavy. I want to paint like a reproduction tavern sign or something. Anyone have any good ideas? Anyone seen an interesting sign? I don't know what to do with it or why I took it. I'll probably not do anything and it'll end up in the next big pickup. I really want to repaint and upcycle furniture and sell them but I probably won't and I'll end up just not knowing what to do or where to start. Grr. I hate that.

^^^ Speaking of...
I STILL didn't do anything with that footboard. It's big pickup time again and when I was taking a walk around the neighborhood, I saw a whole slew of things I could collect in my car, a few items at a time, and recycle them into a whole bedroom set to sell. Would be cool to do that, but I don't have the guts, I know it's a very time consuming thing and not much room in my garage, I don't want to take up all that space and then just have everything sit there.
There was a nice headboard; somewhere else was a house that was recently sold and there was a desk and a bureau; at another house there was a pretty sturdy chair with a rush seat that looked to be in pretty good shape, it just needed painting - that could go with the desk. There were two perfectly good matching side tables (they were just dated, a paint job would make them quite nice). There were spare drawers that could be shelves or some decorative shadow box type thing. There was a big cabinet that was taken apart, with all that nice spare wood to be put into other projects like signs or maybe just parts of other put-together tables or shelves/bookcases or something. (Edit: Bed trays?)
There was also a nice, sort of wave-shaped table that could be a kitchen or dining room table for a small space, and there were two chairs at another house that could've went with it. There was a chunky column with dolphins on it that could be a plant stand, not shoddy, but sturdy. Since the table had that shape, the stand with the dolphins could've been painted in the same color scheme to go with the set. (Edit: There was also the top to a hutch that could've been incorporated into that set, if I could find some other sideboard type thing for the bottom - aarrRRGGGHHHhhh).
I was spotting all sorts of things and seeing in my mind's eye what they could become. If I had a little shop and a pickup truck, I'd be in heaven, and all in just this one neighborhood.
It's like the Universe is saying, "hey, here's all the stuff you need to get started, right in front of you and free."
And me? I'm just too indecisive to do it. I'm so mad at myself. Grrr.

I saw some more stuff walking up different side streets. So frustrating. Wish I had a place to put it all. Maybe I could rent a storage space for like a year and work on things one at a time. I know that's probably never going to happen, though. There were more headboards and footboards. One had a kind of bamboo look to it. It was an ugly brown, but if painted maybe turquoise or something, it could have that boho chic look that's a trend right now. I could've done the side tables to go with it, and a bureau and that desk and chair. There were two more chunky side tables each at different houses, but kind of similar. If painted the same way, they could've gone together but not been matchy-matchy, if you know what I mean. Lots of spare wood, both chunky and also pallet wood. Everyone's making things with pallets these days, could be something interesting. There was a perfectly good upholstered chair that was just old and dated and, well. OUTSIDE. But, if I knew how to re-upholster stuff, it would've made a very cool chair. Some people just paint upholstery now, but I don't know how that holds up over time. Well, I should just stop harping on this, since I won't actually do it anyway. Double grrr. Edit: There WAS a glass-paned cabinet door, just sitting by itself. I may actually go get that and make a faux stained glass thing out of it. That's small enough, right? It's a start. I could just take off the handle and the hinges, put in wood filler, paint the frame and then paint the glass with whatever design I want to use. Right? RIGHT?

Welp. All my furniture is gone. So many missed opportunities.
There was a table top that could've been put on new legs, that could've went with some of the mis-matched dining chairs I saw - if they were all painted the same and had the same cushion upholstery, that would've looked cool. There were benches at that same house, really chunky ones that could've been like garden benches or something, like Turkish looking or something. (I wouldn't have used the benches with the dining room table). Oh, well didn't get any of those things.
I did go back and get that cabinet door. It already has that leaded-pane look. I'll put before/after pics up when I figure out what design I want to do.
