For some reason I've been noticing lately cover versions of songs being used to great effect in commercials. Some commercials are movie trailers or for television shows. Others are commercials for video games. In many cases, these versions are either more stripped down and acoustic or more orchestral and electronic than the originals, but they all seem to have an impact in presenting the story or product. In any case, I really like the atmosphere these covers lend. Some examples: Dishonored 2 Trailer Gold Dust Woman Originally by Fleetwood Mac Cover by Julia Holter Cobra Kai Season 2 Trailer Cruel Summer Originally by Bananarama Cover by Kari Kimmel (Comes in at about :30 of the video) Spotlight Trailer Dear God Originally by XTC Cover by Lawless feat. Sydney Wayser (Comes in about 1:15 of the video) The Last of Us Part II Trailer True Faith Originally by New Order Cover by Unknown This last one is a cover of New Order based on an acoustic version arranged and performed by Lotte Kestner. While the video game company recorded their own version of this arrangement (performed, I'm guessing, by the voice actress in the game) but failed to creddit Kestner, and Kestner called them out on it. Still, it's a great version. Not sure why I put this post together. Just wanted to share, I guess

I like this cover a lot. I've looked for it to purchase, as have a lot of other people, but the general consensus is that it was made for the commercial and not available for purchase. No one really knows who the singer is, but quite a few have said that it's Alex Ebert.
