Well, that's definitely good to know. However, it does make me wonder even more why they won't release them. Do they really think they're that bad? There's obviously a demand for them and if there's no problem licensing the films and releasing the episodes, then release the episodes. I think you answered your own question. They really are that bad. Now, that's not MY opinion. I personally LOVE the KTMA season -- I love the higher quality of most of the movies, I love the quiet laid-back-ness. I'v always liked Josh and Josh improvising is great. I even love the skits, as they are almost like getting behind-the-scenes, still-in-development glimpses of the show and the young comedians. BUT, I'm a huge mst3k fan. I'm sure the consensus is that those eps would NEVER sell to the average or light fan, and maybe even anger some purchasers. I think the only way to do it would be to produce and advertise it for what it is--pre first season, developmental, almost like bootleg copies, and put out like 10 in a single bundle for the same price as a normal bundle. And so back to the problem -- after licensing and production and the lower demand, they wouldn't make any money off it. And, I'm not sure many if any of them are PD. Considering many of those movies are actual TV movies produced by real movie companies, they might all have fair sized asking rights. This might actually be a good place for a Kickstarter. Then they would actually see how many people really want the eps.
