Same as the Vol 1 thread. Vote for your fave, rank the rest, discuss
Shorts Volume 1 includes Home Economics Story, Junior Rodeo Daredevils, Body Care & Grooming, Cheating, A Date With Your Family, Why Study Industrial Arts, Chicken of Tomorrow.
The SHOUT release adds MST Hour wraps for Pod People and Cave Dwellers

Pod People ranked 10th on my personal list, so it earns my vote. Cave Dwellers came in at 25. Angel's revenge is only so/so and didn't make the top 100.
I'm not a fan of the shorts discs and felt they were a waste of $ (I'd rather have had a full episode) but it's a good collection
The set offers up 2 essentials, and 1 lesser ep (though I wanted them all released, so you take the good with the fair)

Cool idea for a series of threads!
I'm inclined to say my favorite episode in this group is Cave Dwellers. Pod People's a very good episode (some of the best host segments they ever did), but its riffing has always been a little too esoteric and not observational enough for me. I agree that Angel's Revenge is only so-so: some of the riffing is really inspired, but my lasting memories of that episode are Jim Backus making an utter fool of himself in the movie and the "Chocolate Jones and the Temple of Funk" & Mads host segments.
Shorts, Vol. 1 at least has new linking segments with Servo. To me, that makes it more valuable than the later volumes that just edited several shorts together. Similarly, I hope Shout would consider re-releasing the Tom Servo's Favorite Host Segments videos, or at least the two that had new Servo bookend segments.
The Rhino edition of Vol. 2 has better transfers for at least Cave Dwellers and Pod People (I actually don't have Rhino's Angels Revenge), but Shout's edition has more complete versions of those episodes. IIRC, the Shout version of Shorts, Vol. 1 is terribly encoded, too--nearly unwatchable. Completionists should probably grab both releases, although as jocksinclair has mentioned in another thread, neither version of Pod People is complete as it originally aired, which is a serious bummer:

I actually voted for the shorts for this one, as sitting through the others after having seen them so many times can be a slog. When I first watched all these, I found them funny, with maybe an exception being Angel's Revenge, as I barely remember anything that stood out from that ep for me.
So, the shorts, taking things in small doses, is best.
Cave Dwellers and Pod People are kind of neck and neck for me, tolerance wise. There are funny lines and moments in each that I appreciate, but also long stretches of ho-hum on repeat viewings with both. I liked them both a lot better the first time I saw each. Maybe Pod People wins out slightly because of Idiot Control Now.

someone actually sent me a copy of Pod People broadcast edition so I could compare (was it on VHS? I have around here somewhere), I don't recall any lost riff, just a few extended movie scenes. I wish I'd left a note on that in a write-up, though I might have discussed it here way back when.

I wish I'd left a note on that in a write-up, though I might have discussed it here way back when. The "as broadcast" Pod People is different, but not missing anything exactly. If you watch around the final commercial break, there are three shots which repeat. So there are no extra jokes, it's an oddity of airing, no other episode aired that way.
But the "MST Hour" has an extra riff by Tom Servo which wasn't in the regular broadcast, which is also (to my knowledge) unique among the Hour episodes.
So it is an episode of oddities.
Rhino also used to cut little bits out around the commercial breaks to make the transitions smooth, and if I remember it right, "Cave Dwellers" has one of the longest cuts of any episode, almost as much as "I Accuse My Parents".

Okay, I found my note on the copy Gary sent me back in 2005, I don't remember that repeated scene, and I don't know when this version I have was broadcast, nor do I have the SHOUT version, so maybe all this is included on their release.
But this is what I wrote in '05, on the differences between what Gary sent me and the Rhino release...
"The only thing cut on the Rhino disc came during chapter 12, 56:23. Tommy has just shown Trumpy how to do a puzzle but Trumpy doesn't get it. On the Rhino disc it cuts to Tommy presenting Trump the Simon game.
In the broadcast version there's another line of dialog for Tommy, he says... "It's easy. We must teach you one day" and THEN he reaches for the Simon game. That's it. No lost riff, no dialog that would enhance a riff.
One note: the lost bits came at the commecial break. Much like the lost riff in the "Home Econiomics" short. Someone is cutting things a little too close in the editing room."
So yeah, considering what you wrote about Dwellers and Parents, Rhino was doing some shaving.

Angels Revenge with all it's washed up TV and movie stars has such strong riffing and way more LOL moments for me than the others. Pod People is runner-up here and the only thing I really liked about Cave Dwellers was the very brief Mike Douglas Show send-up during one of the breaks. I own the Rhino copies and as much as I miss the MSTH Wraps, I never really entertained the idea of double dipping.

That's the "Hour" version, not the original broadcast version, but in this case that is WAY more desireable. "Pod People" was a popular episode, original broadcasts are dime a dozen. But I've never seen the Hour version on-line, just that little snippet.
If you can find that tape, I have been looking for a good copy of that footage for a while now. (I do have the Youtube rip, but I would rather have a clean copy with no compression.) I want to create a composite cut using the superior Rhino transfer as a base (correcting the width), augmented with the Shout disc where needed, restore at least the not-entirely-repetitious parts of the final commercial break, fix the theme song, and the last box to tick off is "put in the extra Hour footage". I would also be curious to see how the Hour version handled the strange commercial break.

It's hard for me to choose between Cave Dwellers and Pod People but in the end the former won(granted I might be in more of a Pod People mood later down the line). Still the choice between the two reminds me that 3 is one of my fav seasons of the show.

I believe the one I was sent was from the season 3 turkey day marathon, I remember the logo and the bumpers. Commercials were included, so it ran about 2 hrs. I tried to find it, but no luck, it's probably in storage, in the last box, at the very back, on the bottom of the pile... because that's the way things go in life.

I'm sorry, I misread what you had posted; the extra footage from the Hour Wrap is the line right before the line you're talking about. It leads into the line about "You must teach me sometimes", which was cut from the Rhino discs because they always tried to smooth out the commercial breaks.
So the search continues!
