Also believe or not, there's still a whole lot of backers whom the news hasn't gotten to yet. A lot of people don't get backer emails because they unplugged from those long ago since the mission was accomplished and don't like the spam. I've seen several posts from people who were astonished their friend didn't know about the new KS yet. And a lot of this depends on getting the word out on other platforms and boards (besides forrestcrow, internet is big). I went to the Criterion Collection forum and found no one had posted about the KS in the MST3K thread. So its a lot of making sure this is relayed in all the appropriate places online not just MST3K fan sites.
You also got procrastinators, people that see they have all month to pledge, after all, there's no incentive to pledge right away, people waiting to until stretch goals get met since having more than 3 episodes is more of a sell. Kickstarters never play out where everyone checks in right away and then nothing more for the rest of the month. It's a whole month of campaigning and getting in pledges.

Now, if Joel were to make K04-K21 downloadable extras like he did K01 and K02...I'd absolutely back this KS whole hog. I'm 100% serious. I should ask about it on the KS to put it out there in the ether. This is a great idea. If they were given away to backers as a promotional bonus as they did K01 + K02, they may skirt around any potential licensing issues, but I can't say if that is 100% true. I can't quite recall what happened last time, did the K1/2 giveaway increase the backers, or was it a campaign afterthought?

Joel hinted at releasing “the earliest episodes” during the campaign, but we didn’t actually get confirmation that it was K01-2 until they were released, I believe about six months later.

I don't have a problem with Bob. That's one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about me! I'm also a Star Trek fan. That can get toxic. ... Have I told you guys what I think about the new Star Trek series? ... ...that's actually really funny, it's so apt, on topic and actually true. I'm a huge Star Trek fan, mostly TNG, but I like TOS just fine too, but can't STAND the new series. Like, I actually like MST3K season 11 just fine. I CAN NOT STAND any Nu Trek.

Day 4 of the 2021 campaign earned $128,165 from 721 backers.
Day 4 of the 2015 campaign earned $141,897 from 1404 backers.
Interestingly, day 5 of the 2015 campaign had 727 backers. Day 5 was also the first time the 2015 campaign dropped below $100,000, earning $65,226. I'll be curious if there's a similar drop in store for this year.

I have to say that I am surprised how much $ this has generated so far. There were questions on whether people would have much in the way of disposable income to pledge, and after season 12, I wondered if there be much enthusiasm for the show...
But perhaps mine is the minority opinion and most MSTies loved season 12? (for me, it's no better than season 1, maybe the funniest ep, Mac and Me would equal something from season 2)
And why did I pledge? Out of support, or maybe the live show and the shorts with Joel, J. Elvis, and Bill reminded me of what I loved about MST3K... but that was with Joel as host, not Jonah (who frankly, leaves me a bit cold). Or maybe I'm hanging on the hope that a monthly schedule could improve the writing, give it a humor boost? There were some good ones in season 11, maybe they can rebound and give us eps that reach Avalanche levels of riffing?

This is pretty much where I'm at, though I'm on the other side of the fence and haven't quite talked myself into donating yet. I'm also surprised by the level of support so far. There were good Season 11 eps, but Season 12 was a big step back as far as writing goes. And I DID enjoy that supermarket short with Joel. But it was a short, and it was with Joel. And I do think a monthly release schedule will help with writing, etc, but I still have concerns about everything being made remotely and glued together in editing. Out of curiosity, how much did you pledge, MJ?

2,550,644 via 14,089 backers. Avg pledge is $181.03
I'm thinking that the $100 tier plus the $70 add-on for the DVD set is one of the most popular combination so far. Also, the fact that add-ons are now a part of the kickstarter and not a post-hoc thing like they were in 2015 may make me reassess the totals of this Kickstarter. It certainly complicates the math a bit.

Or maybe I'm hanging on the hope that a monthly schedule could improve the writing, give it a humor boost? I'm very curious about this. Because, if it's going to be the same cast and crew, then assume same production style/schedule, I'm not sure why it would be any different than last time. Or in other words, they produce it the same way, but then just release the shows once a month. Or, maybe more likely, assume they get 12 eps, they come in and shoot 6, and then six months later come in and shoot 6. Someone should bring it up in the KS and see if Joel addresses it.

He missed the train to do it in 2019. With how things were going with Netflix, he should have seen this coming but going back to Kickstarter to ask fans to bail out the show again is a difficult decision. Then asking to do it during the unforeseen pandemic would be a no-go indeed. Most MSTies loved season 12 i'd say, it didnt suck but not getting the quality we were expecting was a disappointment. Also fans recognize Season 11 was a product of being supported by the fans while Season 12 was a product of being supported by Netflix. Another reason why i pledged, to get back to MST3K having complete creative control over these and future episodes.

Joel said something like "releasing episodes as we finish them". Whether that means, making 1 episode and releasing it every month, or shooting a batch of 6 and releasing them as they finish editing with the goal being 1 per month...I have no idea.
I kind of wish Joel was more open about the process they're planning for Season 13. If anything is concretely changing in how the show is made. Like kracker said, they don't have corporate masters to please. So are they making the show 90 minutes again and reinstating the middle host segment? That was clearly a Netflix change.
Maybe he will at some point this month.

That will likely get addressed because it answers when we are seeing the new episodes. The monthly schedule means we don't have to wait until all episodes are finished to watch any of them, like with Netflix. They just have to produce one, but after the Gizmoplex is built and going. I'd imagine they'd just do it similar to how they produced episodes back in the CC days, which i believe is that batch approach?

Halfway through Day 5, $25,880 raised from 192 backers. Avg pledge $134.79 Makes me think yesterday was a bit of an anomaly as today's avg amount so far matches the prior trend.
