Hope everyone has contributed to the new campaign. I bought the package that includes the future dvd set. I believe with Joel back in control that he will take the show back to its roots. I'm excited for the project and look forward to downloading the app when it is released. It is actually a great time to be a fan of MST3K.

Joel was in control the entirety of the making of Season 11. NetFlix didn't enter in to the picture until late post production of Season 11 after Joel had run out of money. So everything in Season 11 is where Joel took MST3K.
Now, the further changes to format and movie selection in the abbreviated Season 12 were most likely from NetFlix involvement, though I don't think that has ever been stated outright.

It depends on what you mean by post production. Netflix had picked up MST3K a few months before filming began.

Maybe, actual filming, I don't know exact timelines, I wasn't there. But everything that was put out around that time, and I was following along throughout and after the kickstarter -- as far as I know, everything you saw in Season 11, from the movie choices to the casting choices, to the intros and skits, to the bumpers, to the set and bot designs, to the dispersed committee riff writing, to the production flow of writing all eps back-to-back, filming all segments back-to-back, recording all the lines back-to-back in a booth, shooting the theater scenes separate with puppeteers, and editing it all together -- all that was done under Joel's direction. (literal direction that is, not TV credit direction, as that was someone else, still, hired by Joel).

Okay majorjoe23, here and in other threads, you keep pushing back on me when I talk about NetFlix involvement in 'the reboot', so I went and pulled up the old kickstarter and went through the posts to get some real dates. Here we go-- 2015, Dec 12: The kickstarter ends with $6.3 total pledge money [9 months of sporadic updates with not much info other than some artwork] 2016, Aug 1: Joel announces Netflix as the new home of MST3K. It's a fun read in hindsight. Joel is so happy about it. [8 more very quiet weeks go by] 2016, Sep 26: 'Main' production starts! Okay, so you're right. I take it all back. Netflix was responsible for it ALL!!! Well, maybe not all of it. Go read the production starts post. Joel is announcing that this is THE WEEK that they are going to do all the shooting with the 'big name' actors. But, you'll notice, he also mentioned they had already done a bunch of pre-production, the scripts had been completely written, props made, etc etc. But... then, there still is that 8 quiet weeks sitting there between the two posts. Sitting there staring at us. [*puts on airs of big time detective trying to fit all the clues together*] ... Yep. As far as I know Joel blew through all the KS money and had nothing to show for it other than the WAY overdone production notes and designs we got in the coffee table book, and was sitting there with no idea how he was going to actually make the damn shows themselves, until NetFlix came in with not just more money but actual production know how, advice, ...suggestions. Quickly skimming a little further back in the updates, the only real info he gives is some artwork and that they have all the movies selected and are writing all the scripts with an ad hoc group of dispersed writers. Everything else I guess is fair game for anyone's guess. ...having said aaall that, my main point still remains-- I want to make it clear to people that 'Joel back in control' is in no way guaranteed to be a good thing.

The Netflix deal was announced at the San Diego Comic Con in July of 2016. Filming started in September of 2016, based on the fan visits to the set.
I suppose it’s possible that filming started in June secretly, the deal was announced in July, stopped and then resumed in September, but that would shoot a hole in the rushed filming theories.

I'm guessing you posted that while I was in the middle of my monster fact-finding post. TLDR-- you're right.

Correct, we were like movie-riffing ships, passing in the night.

Just checked. They're about $123,000 away from unlocking episodes 4-6. Season 13 may have what they call "British Brevity", but I won't mind.

So, who saw last night's live stream hosted by Joel and the live tour cast? They showed "Hobgoblins" and it was hilarious. It's saved over on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hugO9coWrw0&t=4782s. I saw on the latest update that six more are scheduled starting on Thursday, including episode showings, appearances by J. Elvis and Mary Jo, and both the Netflix and live tour casts.

Yeah, I saw the HOBGOBLINS stream on YouTube. It was pretty enjoyable to watch Joel watching this classic episode for the first time. Not that I blame him due to personal feelings he may have about leaving the show he created, but I think Joel only slowly began catching up with the Mike episodes long after the fact, and there's a lot he still hasn't seen. It's a bit staggering to think Joel never had Road Rash in his life, but better late than never.

I have given my life savings to the project now. I believe in it and I think that we fans who have complete DVD collections will stick to our collection, but DVDs deteriorate and eventually, everything will be stored in the Gizmoplex. I have all 39 volumes, Netflix seasons on DVD, and KTMA episodes on DVD. I really hope they put the KTMA in the Gizmoplex, and anything related to the show.

Which is great as long as you keep paying a monthly membership fee indefinitely, and they keep the Gizmoplex up and running indefinitely. (I actually don't think a well kept DVD will deteriorate in anyone's lifetime. They're not like VHS tapes.)

(I actually don't think a well kept DVD will deteriorate in anyone's lifetime. They're not like VHS tapes.)I've been wondering about these Gizmoplex issues...I hope we'll see something like this: Memberships are required for immediate access to new content, but anyone will be able to purchase and store episodes at the Gizmoplex. With, of course, there being a limited set of "free for subscribers" episodes rotating in and out monthly. And then, if the Gizmoplex were to go away, I'd hope we'd still have access to purchased episodes via VHX/Vimeo like we do with the digital content from the first kickstarter. I've not messed around with actually downloading any content. As for disc rot, it's real, if somewhat rare with well cared for discs.
