I can only imagine the kind of poor quality it's in. If it's one of those old 700MB max DAP-era dubs, it'll be blocky and look awful. He said he was having trouble getting his AI software into the right parameters to make it look good, so who knows.

I mean at this point it’s pretty much a case of “we’re gonna have to take what we can get” situation.
Hopefully it won’t be TOO pixelated to the point it’s just hard to make out the picture altogether…… but, we’re just gonna have to wait and see.

That's a very interesting channel. Five months ago he didn't have that episode from this anonymous source. His source is a 90 year old with 50 years of TV experience that he describes as cranky. HE got it as a digital file from another source that wishes to remain anonymous, but said was in Louisiana. So its coincidentally a totally different source. This reminds me of back in 2013 after Ben Solovey discovered the workprint of Manos and then coincidentally Rifftrax found another high quality print of Manos to use in 2013 - that they claimed wasn't Solovey's. Anyway, good luck. Hope one of these is in fact it and they're real. I'd bet as soon as one source appears somehow multiple other sources will turn up.

My main concern as of right now is if we end up falling into another dead-end area where once August 1st comes literally a month from now, we’ll end up in another “well sh*t, my source stopped communicating with me” situation.
I dunno, I don’t want to be too pessimistic with this but it would be just as equally frustrating, if not MORE frustrating since this guy is pretty big on YouTube, if we end up running into this same exact situation again.

Very true. It would be ironic, wouldn't it.
But I'm def going to be replying to the Minnesota guy on Twitter the next time I see him make a new tweet. That tape may be the very last physical copy, and dubbed straight from the source. And VHS can be restored a lot easier than an nth-gen, low resolution digital file.

If this person does already have the file I'm just wondering what relevance 8/1 has.

He has a private streaming service, with Hollywood movies behind a paywall, and wants to run a lost piece of media through AI rather than just letting the raw file be out there. This whole thing is BS and always has been. It's all too absurd to be real. This isn't worth getting invested in. At best it's trolling, at worst it's an outright scam.

If this person does already have the file I'm just wondering what relevance 8/1 has. He's VERY invested in AI upscaling. For some reason. He wants to get the episode upscaled but because the quality of the file, he can't quite get the settings right and it's taking up a huge amount of his time. He also runs the video and programming services for a local public access TV station in northwest Arkansas, this is what he said: So in addition to his aforementioned pay-for-play movie server, he seems to have it all intertwined with the TV station. The thing is, almost NOTHING on his private streaming server seems to have any views. But he uploads and is uploading MOUNTAINS of stuff. And he AI upscales ALL of it. Which takes a huge amount of time. I think he may be well-meaning but...a bit...uh, well, I can't think of a nice way to put it. Stretched-thin. I guess.

I just looked up his real name on the email on the TV station's website. He's the director of operations for the station.

As I said previously. I’m just gonna keep my expectations low with this. Hopefully we at least have something to look forward to by August.

Everything about him and his channel is very "interesting." I'm not saying you shouldn't follow up on this but I wouldn't get too excited over it. Also interesting that he's uploaded most KTMA episodes but K03's twin, K12, is one of the missing ones. I'm sure he's a real person. Just eccentric. Which doesn't necessarily mean anything.

I REALLY hope this isn’t another case of “Oops, this turned out to be K12/310/318” scenario because it’s f*cking 2024 and you can literally look this up anywhere on the internet and find many good results…… but only time will tell…..
I only bring that up now that it’s mentioned he doesn’t have K12 on his channel.

I thought about that. He said in the comments of another video 5 months ago that he DIDN'T have K03, specifically. DS_36 pointed that out. So he'd surely know the difference.
Hopefully.

I have some experience working with digital video. Completely amateur, but I enjoy it as a hobby. I would be willing to spend some time helping to restore the video if it materializes. A 3-4 minute clip would be enough to experiment with.

Just a personal suggestion, but would it be out of the question or too pushy if you could possibly email your back-up source with the digital file to ask for a personal screen shot of maybe a theater segment or any host segment for that matter so we know that this is the real deal and not another K12/310/318 misunderstanding? Cause at least then it won’t feel like it comes off as a nasty surprise when August 1st rolls around.
