I wonder if that means that there's some random guy out there with VHS master dubs of all the other KTMA episodes?

Well whoever this came from didn't have K01 or K02 so no one has a complete collection.
As cool as finding this episode would be actually finding it will take away some of that magic of always being searching for something.

Yes, since K01 and K02 weren't there, it makes me think it wasn't a complete collection of 197 episodes.
I need to do a more thorough look at picture later and try to estimate how many tapes are there, but I know from looking at photos of my vault tapes that those labels are different. All of my Vault tapes are handwritten on a custom MST3K template, those are printed. So it makes me think they were done later, maybe even after production shut down? In that weird period where Jim was still running the website and uploading stuff maybe? Hard to say.

Nah, it'll definitely help me sleep better at night knowing we'd finally have all of KTMA for public viewing.
It might not feel as special as the first two with them being Gerry and Sylvia compilation flicks (we REALLY got lucky with those two), but it still gives us stuff like hearing more of Servo's squeaky Kermit the frog-type voice, the possibility maybe Gypsy was in a theater segment or two, and I've also wondered if maybe Cambot had a line in this episode with it only being the third an still in the "early stages."
I'm also curious to know if Joel maybe had some more inventions to show at the end of the episode.

If those tapes were done in the Mallon in control of MST3K.com era I wonder if there's any chance this tape is one that got sent to somebody for digitizing and never got returned.

I see "Space Children" in that picture -- has that master dub ever turned up? I believe the best copy I have seen was done with a DVR, iirc. Really curious to find the guy who got those tapes.

It's possible all of these tapes were made off of the masters at the end of the Sci-Fi era and then 10 years later Jim hired some guy to digitize them for the website so he could put little clips up and he told the guy when he was done he could keep the tapes.

Alright, so... Looking at my Vault Tapes, some interesting things. All of the vault tapes, even the ones from the Sci-Fi era, were hand-written on pre-made labels. See attachedSo that makes me think the ones in the Facebook marketplace ad were made later. But, adding to their provenance, I looked at the slip-covers and brands of what I have vs what's in the FB marketplace photo, and there are some matches. See attachedNotably the red/gold Target-brand and the black/white, which is a Sony T-120PR, "professional grade" tape. Don't see too many of those out in the wild, further lending credence. Taking a closer look at the photo from FB marketplace, its looking down into a cardboard box. I estimate there are somewhere between ~70-120 tapes. So roughly only a third or two-thirds of all OG episodes, depending on if the tapes are 2 or 3 deep. But either way, not all of the episodes. So its damn lucky there was even 1 KTMA in there. In the photo, I can see: K03 - Star Force 112 - Untamed Youth 209 - The Hellcats 212 - Godzilla vs Megalon 313 - Earth Vs The Spider 318 - Star Force 323 - Castle of Fu Manchu 403 - City Limits 406 - Attack of the Giant Leeches 420 - Human Duplicators 906 - Space Children One has to wonder what the beer-trader is doing with those tapes now. If it has ANY other KTMA episodes, he could make a mint on eBay.

And not only KTMA tapes, but maybe even weird lost extras like Mylar: What's it to You.

Slightly unrelated but this picture of Kevin makes me believe he provided a line for Cambot (possibly) in this episode (which is something Tom Noel notes on the "lost episodes" page on his website, but I don't know if that's just a good faith assumption on his end). And if that is the case, it'd be cool hearing his voice in at least one KTMA show.

Exciting information regarding K03. I hope it pans out.
I wonder if the audio for K06 broadcast edition can be restored by mixing in audio from other K06 sources. If I could get the audio files from as many as possible I should be able to clean it up. Might not be able to do much with the commercials if they only have the one source. Even if I don't succeed it would still be a fun project.

I do not want to in any way disparage any of the people involved, especially those who are friends/relatives of those who have passed away recently. I want to be as respectful as possible.
This looks too good to be true. I can't wrap my head around the notion of an MST3K fan in possession of such immaculately labeled tapes for decades, yet not having any knowledge of just what it was they had, nor how badly it was wanted by the community. I'm not saying it's impossible. Indeed, Bruce Lee's The Big Boss's theatrical cut, lost for almost 50 years, resurfaced out of nowhere earlier this year. Sometimes these things do just turn up like that. But until the footage is out there, I just can't bring myself to believe this is real.
Also note that the KTMA episodes are labeled as such. So this was either a fan doing the labeling - who would surely know what they had - or someone connected to Best Brains who somehow got custody of this tape through means unclear, and was out of touch with the fan community until someone else got their hands on it???
Something does not add up.

How else would you expect K-03 to ever be found?

I think Star just means with the fact that "finding" this episode has just become a meme within this community now, that people are too quick to cry Wolf when the final result just ends up being "Oh, it was K12/318, sorry." So while the image DOES make it look more convincing and the fact that this gentleman is in the Minnesota area, we COULD have a good chance of finally having an opportunity to see it once and for all, but shouldn't have extremely high hopes either or else it's only setting yourself up for disappointment.
