KTMAs often pushed into the 100 minute range. I don't see why the new show can't do that, especially with longer movies.

If you have no network or streaming service telling you how long episodes have to be, then they can be the length you are most comfortable making, as the showrunner.
I would hope that ~100 minute long movies would not be edited down to 65 minutes in any new episodes produced. Ninety-ish minute episodes with three host segments during the film seems to be a sweet spot that works for everyone.

The fact Joel even acknowledged that ~90 mins is optimal is a win unto itself.
The fact he talked about the need to cut up movies because they're not well made is...something else.
But as long as the show is a minimum 90 minutes and hopefully the movies are at least 70+ of those minutes, that's an improvement.

KTMA was heavy on the dull side.. we don't need to go back to that. Even my fav episode Pod People could be cut down and it would improve the episode.

That was because of the riffing, not the movies themselves. I'd argue that the KTMAs aren't that heavy on dull moments anyway, but whatever. I'd rather see more movie because, y'know, the movies are kind of the star of the show here besides the commentary.

I respect your take.. but I really disagree. these movies suck and not every scene is riffing gold. Keeping the full length of all the films is a great way to turn a good riff into a slog by the end. Rifftrax has proven that over and over to me. Edit: looking at your cool spreadsheet I see many of my favs in your top 10 worst episodes.. Fair to say we are looking for very different things with this show.

I've said before that I can and do enjoy most of the movies shown on MST3K on their own. I've always considered that a key ingredient to my fandom, although I know not everyone agrees. My 2 cents: keep the movies at the approx. 75-80 minute run time they were on the original series. That allows for a few cuts to benefit the show's pacing and/or remove any non-family-friendly content, but it still makes it feel like they're riffing a feature film. With the exception of The Day Time Ended, all of the Season 12 episodes cut their respective movies to shreds. It was noticeable and I didn't think it improved the episodes one bit.

Personally, I think it would be somewhat dismissive to say that the movies featured flat out suck. While MST3K is about making fun of cheesy movies, I think it's equally about showing respect to and celebrating these movies. If there are some parts that are unriffable because they're too boring or too disgusting, those are fine to cut out. However, I would still try to show these films some more respect. Season 12 absolutely obliterated the run time of most of its movies.
