Red Zone Cuba. The mere mention of its name inspires a sense of foreboding and dread.

People love to make edgy choices in these types of threads ("Final Sacrifice!" lol no) but the answer is Monster-A-Go-Go. It's literally half of a movie thrown together with a "it didn't really happen" add on. The only joke the guys did that I can remember laughing at was them laughing at the telephone ring.
That's it. Other movies may have come close to being as bad, but by default they were finished movies. Plus the riffing made up for the deficiencies.
Monster-A-Go-Go now and always.

I'm pretty sure that every unscientific poll with a large response regarding this question has shown the answer to be Mad Monster.
I'm sure that means something more than telling you that *I* don't much care for Manhunt in Space.

That made me chuckle, the notion that a bunch of us old-timer MSTies get our kicks making edgy choices on a dying forum. It'll be something to tell the grandchildren when they call us fuddy-duddys, "You kids don't know how radical we are, why, just the other day your grandmother called an episode of a show bad, when it was actually good!"

I actually don't mind Mad Monster. I think it's more enjoyable than Aztec Mummy, and I can think of at least twenty other episodes that I find less funny than both of those.
Really, the main point of these threads is just for fun and discussion. I would recommend people watch the entire series of MST3K to find what episodes they have the most attachment towards. This is kinda why I'm not really a big fan of list articles on MST3K, because everyone is going to have different picks for favorites. It's hard to rely on one list or even an average because opinions can differ very wildly.

Yup, I recommend everything, find out for yourself. (and I get laughs out of Mad Monster, too - it's got some cute quips in it)
I like lists, I have a list addiction (making and reading them), but I think I look at it differently than others do - not so much as an authoritative thing (the finger of God writing it in stone) but as a reflection of an individual. It's why I don't get that upset if someone ranks my favorite episodes at the bottom of their lists or articles. That's their personality, I'm seeing what that individual likes.
It amuses me when people tell me I'm rating something too high, or too low. No, I'm not, I'm ranking it exactly where I want it. This is me, this is mine. I think some folks just want me to take their lists, and rearrange mine to match their tastes. But then that's not me anymore, that's you. I'll be happy to read your list and see what you dig, and how that reflects who you are as a MSTie. So go ahead on, whip one up, instead of getting angry about mine.
Then we can compare and discuss, and give some good-natured ribbing (maybe even good-natured brawling, like in that Hercules film)

And everyone knows the worst episode is The Corpse Vanishes. Any suggestions otherwise is clearly tomfoolery.

As someone who started really diving into the comedy central era after they had high speed internet I have avoided the usual hated episodes... monster a go-go and castle of fu manchu.. the coleman francis trilogy has a large and vocal fan base for those episodes... so sadly I watched all 3.. years go by and my fandom had grown and exposure to all the different eras expanded... still kept seeing Red Zone Cuba getting lots of fanfare in the fan groups.. watched it again this year... it was even worse than I remembered.. but I have no doubt there are worse episodes.

the most brutal movies made for good, and in some cases the very best, episodes of the show. monster a-go go, red zone cuba, beast of yucca flats, all representative of what i like about this series and what i thought it was going to be like before i ever started watching. even movies that aren't extremely incompetent, just relentlessly mean or depressing, like kitten with a whip or high school big shot, i adore. partially because they're a bit different than what i think most people would suppose a show called "mystery science theater" would feature and partly because they seem to get on both those movies and my personal wavelengths exceptionally well and roll with everything that gets thrown at them.
the worst episodes are ones where they have nothing new to say, just pulling out the same (half-baked, dated, in-the-know) jokes they've been running into the ground over the previous episodes and delivering them poorly to boot. hercules against the moon men is my no. 1 example of this, very unpleasant & shrill, tiresome and practically void of any laughs. the print of the movie looks like garbage as well, all washed out with too much brown/beige standing out. it's yucky to look at and yucky to hear them fail at being funny over it.

The episodes I like the best are the episodes that I could watch unmisted and be shaking my head and saying what the hell did I just watch. That's why I like episodes like monster a-go-go, red zone cubs, beast of yucca flats etc.
The ones I don't like tend to be bad prints like Fu Manchu or the Aztec Mummy or movies that are more dull than bad like Kitten with a Whip.

When Jim Vorel did his list on Paste, somewhere he talked about enjoying the absurd ones (both movie and riff-style), I think that was the word he used. So, not unexpectedly, several really mean or painful ones were pushed to the back part of his list (Coleman's trio, Strange Creatures, Fu Manchu, Sidehackers). Other fans have talked about types they prefer. Torgo here enjoys the productions from Japan, and when the sci-fi era was still in progress, there were people at work who said they didn't like Jack Frost only because the movie was weird... whereas I enjoy those weird, imaginative ones (Jack and the other Russian films, Santa Claus), weird added to the fun. And if I laugh enough I can even enjoy a brutal one (Beast of Yucca Flats, and Monster A-Go Go, both put me in stitches). I can even find the absurdity in them through the riffing. (Tom has a scientist speak of "Big gobs of neat stuff" in MAGG for example) That made me chuckle, the notion that a bunch of us old-timer MSTies get our kicks making edgy choices on a dying forum. Its not dead, its resting! And to be fair, the last few months are the most activity the board has seen in years. Yeah, it has been a little more lively.

Even the riffers needed the variety. Kevin talked about that in one of his DVD introductions in regards to the sci-fi era, where at first they wanted them to do the same type of film, and what a relief it was to riff on something different, "there's only so many things you can say about a rocket ship on a string", I believe he said.

Could've sworn I posted in this thread, and fairly recently, too. But, no. Heh. It was 2018 and it was just another "worst episodes" thread. I hate Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, Hamlet, Bride of the Monster, and something with Dead in the title -- that one with Digger Smolken. Also Castle of Fu Manchu, though it has a few moments, overall it is a slog. Can't stand Boggy Creek II or that one with the dinosaurs and the nun, what was that called again? These are the ones that come to mind first and foremost. A lot of Season 1 episodes can drag. The later Sy-Fy years ones seem like they were just phoning it in and just talking TOO much over the movie. Season 12 wasn't easy to watch at times, and I STILL haven't sat through Season 13 all the way through. I actually like Monster a Go-Go. (Though that can drag in spots).
