This may seem like a somewhat odd request, but I'm looking for anyone who may have recorded The Deadly Bees off of the Sci-Fi Channel on Saturday, October 23, 1999. Currently, Discotek Media is trying to track down copies of a specific Sci-Fi channel commercial for the anime Project A-Ko (see here) for their upcoming Blu-ray, and I've narrowed down the times it aired to these 9 times: On the final airing, it aired right after MST3K, and one of the episodes that hasn't made it to DVD to boot. So my question is, if anyone has a copy of "The Deadly Bees" recorded off of the Sci-Fi channel around the turn of the millennium, can you check your tape?

I checked the one recording I have and it didn't have it, but I'm going to pass the request along to a forum where you might get lucky. It's a tough ask because (1) it had been airing long enough that most people probably had already taped it, and (2) people don't usually keep recording after the episode. (That said, the one WOC Deadly Bees I have *did* keep going, it just wasn't the right day.)

I've looked at mine already, no luck. Sorry.

Yeah, I assumed not many people would still have it, especially from a rerun, but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask anyway

It's definitely worth asking. I've been on the look out for later recordings of "Deadly Bees" for a while now because they changed the location of the "Scifi Channel" bug, and what I've noticed is that by the time the SciFi Channel episodes were airing, everybody that was still taping the show kind of had it down to a science, most of the tapes are within the initial airing period. It seems like the show wasn't getting a lot of new viewers who were into it enough to tape the episodes. It makes sense, but I find it very inconvenient for my needs in 2021!

I'm pretty sure my copy was from 2001, so I'm pretty positive I don't have it.

You say "right after" the episode. How long after the episode was finished was it broadcast?
I may very well have recorded that episode on that day, but I generally didn't leave much footage after the episode was finished.
I'd also have to bust out my VCR for the first time in about nine years if I were to check.

The recording on the Twitter post has the ad leading directly into the showing of the film, but it's hard to judge by that because SciFi Channel sometimes had a short ad break in between shows in order to retain viewers, and then have a full ad break within the first five minutes of the show.
I'm also wondering is if the ad could possibly have aired *during* MST3k. It seems like they might tell you what's coming up next, at least in the final few ad slots.

I’m pretty sure I’ve got the first airing from May ‘98. I’ll find out what tape that episode is on & find time later this week to dig it out.

Thank you for checking, jedicrippler. I'm the person who is looking for this trailer, and I much appreciate anything you can help us with.
They may have also played a commercial for it during the commercial breaks of the episode as well. If you could check the commercial breaks as well for anything A-ko related too, I would appreciate that too. Many thanks!

A guy I know has a Youtube rip of a Scifi recording of the film, including the ad. He says it sounds the same as the recording you have already posted, so my assumption is that you probably got it from whoever posted it on Youtube and it's probably the same. Let me know if you want it for whatever reason, but I don't want to get your hopes up, I don't think it's better than what you already have.

No dice on my end. I rewound through the whole episode on my VHS. No sign of anything anime in the commercials at all. I did see Spawn & X-Files though. LOL
