I mean Mike was almost there as a bot builder

I don't know about Jonah, but it was pretty heavily implied that Mike didn't have the skills to make any robots. Jonah (who I believe was introduced as a Gizmonics wunderkind in the cold open of Reptilicus with Erin Gray) built M. Waverly and Growler. I have no trouble believing Dr. F, Pearl or Kinga could reproduce and manufacture more of the SOL bots for other experiments. I think it kind of takes away from the fatherly image of Joel and the uniqueness of Crow and Tom if just anyone can build a bunch of them. I like to think of the extra 'bots as Crow's and Tom's extensions of themselves, that they themselves built. Kind of like people with children.

Original Gypsy was voiced by Josh. Oh I know, but Josh’s voice for Gypsy was very different, and most people haven’t even seen the KTMA episodes. I more mean that Jim Mallon’s take on Gypsy was the one people were most familiar with! Agreed. Still doesn't have to be Jim though. Patrick Brantseg took over the role in season 8 with no fanfare. Guys doing falsetto are pretty similar. Patrick might even be available. I do think though, that it would be fun if Jim came back. He's not even in show biz anymore, and assumedly made a nice profit selling MST3K back. There may not be much bad blood left, at least between him and Joel. Mike and Bill have always been pretty vocal about never being given a piece of the show and you would assume that all involved dealings with Jim.

I've NEVER liked the idea of more than one tom and crow. they are unique creations. I'm not even sure Joel gets this. When Crow 'changed' in season 8+, they even say 'I'm different!' and explain it through his long trip through time and space. But he's still the 'same' Crow. I think the bots just being bots cheapens the theme of the show.

I think the bots just being bots cheapens the theme of the show. I always saw the sci fi era crow as not the same crow.. it's all right there in the opening of Revenge of the creature. Crow is already there on a new SOL and reading a magazine and then Mike and the other bots represented by the 3 distinctly colored bubbles pop into existence. Crow wasn't part of that group of bubbles and based on the other episodes narrative apparently had been floating in space without anyone else for a long time. It's the fun thing about black holes and alternate universes... there are infinite crows, toms, mikes, etc. I always saw it as the sci fi crow was there from the beginning in his universe and knew both a joel and a mike but in his timeline something different happened to the crews. while many of the other shared experiences were the same. But I haven't seen every single episode so maybe there is some canon narrative pieces I am missing. On that same note I would love it if the crow that bill corbett voices for the upcoming Joel episodes was literally the crow that stayed in wisconsin in the Time Chasers episode.

It's funny how in his first episode, Mike came off like this can-do fix-it person, but much like Bobo's brain, it de-evolved and he turned into the clumsy, inept tech guy who needed Gyps and the Nanites help in that area. Even Joel had to stop by in season 10 to make repairs. I always found there was a disconnect between host segment Mike and theatre mike. He was this big dope during the segments.. and then in the theatre he was the smartest and most cutting riffer.

Pretty hopeless at most things, but can sometimes have a cutting sense of humour under the right circumstances. I just figured it was just a wrinkle to Mike as a character!

So it seems Jonah may have spoken too soon. From Bill’s AMA:
“ Joel opened the door to having all the various past and present Crows switch in and out at points, just generally speaking. We talked about it and while I appreciated the consideration, I respectfully passed. I had an amazingly privileged run on the original MST3k, where I was gifted with being a creative partner with all the vets there right from the get-go, got to write, got to be Crow, got a originate a silly Mad character, and just had a blast. I did some cameos in the rebooted Netflix show a few years ago and it was fun, and I love all the new cast, but kinda felt like I was a person out of time. Like a guy who graduated high school years ago hanging around. Doing the benefit for MIGIZI felt right for a good cause, and getting to work with Joel and J. Elvis (who's a buddy) was cool. But it also felt right to leave it there rather than doing more cameos in a show that has moved on.”

So if Josh is Joel’s Tom, I wonder who his Crow will be? Hampton? Nate?
I think Elliott Kalan could do a pretty good Crow.

Bill, Mike, or Kevin going back to that environment, where they would be Joel's employees rather than full creative partners, would be a step down for them -- almost demeaning, in a way. I couldn't see it happening.

Well let's get Jim back so they can be Jim's employees again. With the reboot, it's a new house and not the house that they built, that they put the work into and are that much a part of. It's not Best Brains.

Sorry to all the fans who believed Bill was coming back. Personally I think it's for the best.

That's too bad, but I was suspecting this would be the case (I mean, why wouldn't you announce that during the campaign?)
But you know, why get fancy with it Joel, Hampton's an ace Crow, riffing with him would be just as wonderful.
