Okay, now I'll let myself be excited. They're officially coming to Boise!

"Gee Bert, you look like Hell."
I just got home from the MST3K live show in Rochester. I made it back in one piece, which feels like an accomplishment as this is only the fourth time I've ever driven outside my own city. The other trips included a long overdue family reunion this past summer, a drive-in screening of The New Mutants last fall and a "date" with a porn star escort a few years back. But I digress.
Making Contact is such a weird movie and perfect fodder for MST3K. The plot is about as nonsensical as The Day Time Ended. I lost it every time the possessed ventriloquist dummy went "BLARGH." And the fish bowl scene.....what the Hell was that about?
As for the performers, Nate and Connor are perfect as the new Crow and Tom Servo. I actually prefer Connor over Barron and I loved his Air Bud joke at the beginning. Emily is adorable as ever, although some of her jokes were a bit too "punny" for my taste. Still, I'm looking forward to her episodes. I'm not a big fan of Mega Synthia (my least favorite Mad so far) but her bit as a Flapper from the Roaring Twenties was pretty funny (As it's the Time Bubble Tour, the MST3K crew is supposed to be traveling backwards in time).
The show also features one of the darkest jokes in MST3K history. Spoiler for a 30+ year old movie:
When the child protagonist DIES, his grieving mother walks down a hall in a daze while random people she passes pat her on the back. Someone riffs, "Better luck next kid."
Overall, a really fun trip.

Did they have any worthwhile merch?

Just some overpriced hoodies, socks and posters with the time bubble tour logo. I ended up getting a magnet for $10.

Seems kinda sparse merch-wise. (I'm sure if I'd gone, my mother would've been all HERE'S X DOLLARS GET YOURSELF A CHRISTMAS GIFT.)
How was the Rochester crowd?

It was a fun crowd. As I was leaving the show, I walked past a tween/teen who was excitedly telling who I assumed were her parents what a great time she had. It's good to know there's a whole new generation of MSTies out there.

I'm thinking I might take my 9-year-old daughter when I go in about two weeks.

Saw the show last week. I took Amtrak from NJ to New Haven, CT. (They're in Red Bank later in the tour, but it'll be in February, when the weather is usually lousy.) Had a great time. The movie was lousy, but the riffing was funny and well-paced. I'd say the best-received riff was the "Carol of the Bells" takeoff, which actually got applause. They did a good job re-writing the theme song for Emily, and the descriptions of the respective hosts was actually pretty accurate. As for the merch, I got a magnet, a postcard, the patch set, the poster and the tote bag. (I got the last two because I got the ones from the previous tours.) And, to top it off, my hotel was only a couple of blocks away from the theater, and I got back in time to watch Carson on Antenna TV. They were running a show from November, 1977. At one point, Johnny interviewed the lead actor from some space opera that was released that year. Kid named Mark something-or-other.

Vaccine card at the ready, booster appointment made, face mask (with Tom Servo) by my side.
I'm ready for the 6th!

The roads are closed from Portland to Boise because of snow. They wouldn't have gotten here.
