I figured the Season 13 update thread has run its course now that the Gizmoplex is in its public beta phase with the imminent release of 1301. So this is the place to discuss Season 13 generally and the rollout of the Gizmoplex over the next several months.
Have at it.

So those intermission ads are...not great. I'm probably going to be skipping the premieres if they keep doing that.

So, this is a part I would not be quiet for. If they are having actual commercials during my totally full price paid for stream, I would be PISSED OFF.

Well the sponsors in the commercials are also KS backers who paid to have those ads as their rewards.

I'm just wondering if those ads are going to be in the Final streaming version of the episode...

The sponsor ads are part and parcel of independent production, same with most podcasts or other online ventures. They've just woven them in with the characters mid-show like the Golden Age of Television. I think that's endearing.

I'm just wondering if those ads are going to be in the Final streaming version of the episode... Well they arent goinig to be in the final final online version, because ads expire eventually. They're likely just limited to the livestreams Youtube content creators are having to weave ads into their videos and it really sucks because years from now, the products and their websites may not exist anymore but they'll be stuck on their rewatchable content forever unless they move to another channel and use the opportunity to edit them out.

That's how it was in the 50's. Watch old episodes of You Bet Your Life and What's My Line and you're going to see a lot of ads for soap and cigarette brands that don't exist anymore. It's kind of amusing that we've come full circle in that regard. That said, I hope the ads don't appear in the finished cuts. Rifftrax doesn't do ads, as far as I know, and MST3k shouldn't have to either.

In my experience, subscription-based services don't run ads unless they have a free option, in which case non-paying users see ads while subscribers don't. Disabling ads is invariably a perk of becoming a subscriber.

Many Patreon subscribers fund Youtube content only for ads to appear in them, unless they have some kind of early access outside of Youtube where they can cut them out. Also you have Sirius/XM which is subscriber based radio but they still have commercials and even talent reading live ads.
The difference between the Golden Age of Television and Youtube is that back then, they didnt think people would be watching these shows decades from now, most television shows were considered as being just as disposable as the advertisements they carried. Youtube content now consists of a lot of educational material, mini-docs and thinkpieces intended to be used as research for decades to come.
OK guys this might help, copypasta from KS:
GIZMOPLEX FOUNDING SPONSOR (Pledge $25,000 or more, only 3 spots available) Do you love MST3K *and* own a business? Maybe it's time to finally start mixing business and pleasure a little more.
For a select few patrons, we'll immortalize you as a GIZMOPLEX FOUNDING SPONSOR.
What does that mean, you ask?
How about this? We'll produce a CUSTOM PROMOTIONAL VIDEO for your business*, featuring our host and bots, and shot on the Satellite of Love or in The Gizmoplex. Then, we'll feature your new promo video in a FULL YEAR OF GIZMOPLEX EVENTS, so that MST-loving consumers everywhere will know what you did to help their cause.
We'll also create a CUSTOM SPONSOR PLACARD to hang in your business AND we'll place a VIRTUAL PLACARD in The Gizmoplex where guests can see it for years to come.
So i take it that this applies to the EVENTS themselves, not the actual episodes. I mean, 25k aint gonna take you THAT far.

Tim Ryder jumped into the Reddit comments to clear up the...uh...downgrade in everything outside the theater. "Okay, I gotta hop in here because I think it’s important that people know this. Regarding the doorway sequence, yes it’s been redesigned to better fit the look of the current show. But it HAD to be redesigned because Netflix refused to let us use any of our own assets! They’re being real jerks over there. It’s legal stuff that’s beyond my understanding but basically the MST3K producers did the noble thing and asked for permission and Netflix said, “Nope. You can’t use anything that’s on these episodes in your new ones.” That may be more than you wanted to know, but I think it’s important people realize that Netflix is dumb."

Sounds a bit of a dodgy explanation to me. For one, as far as I understand it they made the show themselves for season 11 and the Netflix money was basically a license fee. All Netflix was paying for was carriage. All of that stuff, the sets, the doorway sequence, was THEIRS. Not Netflix.
So unless they signed away parts of their IP to Netflix to get Season 12 made, I'm not sure how much i buy this.
For example, the SOL set. While it's greenscreen now,the backdrop IS of the physical Netflix set. How can they not use those assets but keep that?
Something weird there...

As I am not a lawyer and know nothing about copyright law, I'm not going to assume the default position of 'MST is lying.'

I'm not saying he's lying. He even admits its above his paygrade. I'm just saying its very odd and doesn't 100% jibe with what we've seen.
