NuMSTie isn't classic MST, they've yet to release anything that cracked my Top 10, but they've had their highs (Cry Wilderness, Avalanche), episodes that make me howl with laughter (they just offered up one like that with Emily as host). I'm still here. I'm still talking and writing about these things all these years later. I'll agree on Cry Wilderness as being a great "one" but Avalanche was such a slog for me to get through, none of the characters in that movie were interesting so it really did impede from my enjoyment the riffs really didn't help much either.

It goes without saying that were not all going enjoy the same thing, I don't even know why we say it anymore. Don't like my favorite, replace it with one of yours. The point was, I still get a laugh. Edit, sorry rereading that, I might have come off snappish, discuss and disagree a will . But in that sentence, it was more a general 'insert favorite NUMSTie here' kind of thing. And if a fan can't name one, then yeah, the new hasn't worked out for that fan. So far, for season 13, I have one hit, one that was good, and one miss (though there are folks who enjoyed Robots Wars)

The point was, I still get a laugh. thats fair, and don't get me wrong I agreed with the majority of your post, I was just reinforcing the fact that out of the 14 episodes I only enjoyed about 4, the only thing I liked about Reptilicus as and example was the "Every Country Has A Monster" Cry Wilderness was good Star Crash was good (mostly because I love the cheezy Star Wars ripoffs) the first Wizards of the Lost Kingdom ( the second one was so cringey ) and maybe as a weird 4th one The Christmas That Almost Wasn't *honorable mention* Carnival Magic so yeah I understand what you mean you still got a laugh but out of those four almost 5 I got a decent chuckle. I just feel like I didn't get what I paid for is all. and I will say Robot Jox is one of my favorite movies, so I hope the crew does it justice or I'll be disappointed.

So, here's the thing: MST3K is like Monty Python, or Kids in the Hall. The founding members are what made it work. But, both RiffTrax and NuMST3K have decided to go the Saturday Night Live route, with new cast/writers rotating in and out. And somehow, this works too. Of course, you can't recreate The Beatles, but each SNL cast has their hits and misses.
Now, about the rewatches: I think they are mainly for new viewers. But it does give the old viewers an excuse to revisit some classics, and the Gizmoplex has certainly been outdoing itself with adding new host segs to these classic eps. It's kinda like a new version of the MST Hour, but with Sylvia as our Jack Perkins.
Re-Riffs: Not my favorite thing, but it pays the bills. This is show business, and as much as we don't like the biz aspect, without it there's no show.

I would agree with that. Kids in the Hall is also a very strange, rare bird. No one could emulate them, whereas SNL and MST have always had revolving doors and changing of the guard.

I guess since no one was watching, they just debuted a new short "How to Make a Meal in 20 Minutes". Nate Begle is credited among the writers on this one.

5 minutes?!? What's the point?!
Or would riffing a longer short be "too hard"?
I think the "12 new shorts!" thing may be not be worth it, honestly.
Its kind of like riffing end credits in Robot Wars. "Well, you asked for it, here you go...I guess."

Well, it saves then from having to make those tough editing decisions.

are we still bitter about never getting MST3K Full, Uncut, Unrated and too HOT for TV or whatever
Wonder why the short wasn't ""How to Make a Meal in 20 Minutes" in 5 Minutes"

Just to clarify something, most of the people here that are complaining about cut up running times aren't saying give me no cuts or give me death!* But that arbitrarily chopping a movie to a certain length of time, often much shorter than the original time, does a major disservice to the viewers who are watching the movie as much as the riffing and want to follow along to both. (It's a straw man argument.) Plus, just because old MST3K did it or RiffTrax did it, that is not really a very good argument to whether it's a good practice or not. (that's also a fallacy - appeal to tradition.)
*I would though personally, prefer no cuts for the simple reason that it's hard to say that "I've sat through / experienced terrible movie X" when you haven't, you've sat through a sanitized streamlined version of terrible movie X.

(that's also a fallacy - appeal to tradition.)Argument or not, the fact remains that MST3K has been doing this to the movies for over 30 years. You're still not telling anyone why this policy should change, and why it is specifically an issue or a sign of innate laziness or lack or care or effort in 2022 vs. in 1992. Until that is done, I don't see any difference.

Cutting 10 mins of fat out of a movie doesn't constitute butchering the movie and vast majority of viewers aren't watching MST3K because they are really interested in every single thing that happens in Beyond Atlantis.

I'm still trying to figure out what happened to the struggling figure skater in Avalanche (though I actually don't think anything about her storyline was cut out), but I don't fault MST for that. If people cannot articulate a single reason why the show should change its longstanding editing policy now, or why it's unreasonable to be doing it now vs. the first ten seasons, then it simply comes off as not believing the revival series can do anything in good faith or with the quality control of the original series, and skewing the facts based on that assumption.
