I didn't even know they re-did this short. FWIW, I was referring to the original version with Joel, Josh, and Bill.
Yeah, I was assuming that you were referring to the version with Joel. They redid the supermarket short for Turkey Day 2020 with Emily and whoever played Servo and Crow on the live tours. It was really bad. A lot of the riffs weren't even jokes. They were just saying random things. When I rewatched this short, I was thinking to myself "Hell, even I can write better riffs than that." But I still want to give the new crew a fair chance, since I haven't seen them riff a whole movie yet. Maybe they work better with features than shorts.
It isn't whether you like or dislike it, we all have different tastes... it was the expression of surprise that was silly. I mean, surprise that I like a respected, fan favorite short - come on, seriously?
That actually does look much better with the purple lights.
the real table adds so much needed depth to the shot too. They also tweaked the contrast/saturation.. the moon background is a bit darker and the colors on the control panel are more prominent. Hopefully they do the same on the 'movie flushing' scenes like I suggested and get those liquid colors to pop out more.

Except that it's just a real table, wooden, maybe a kitchen table. It looks silly, or I guess makes the clipart space controls look more silly, whichever perspective you want to take.
I disagree that it makes the whole image look worse but I agree it looks silly. The purple tones added to the image are an improvement and having something real in the shot besides the people are improvement... but it still looks really bad.
