I think having Chris there to bounce off of really improved the riffing.

I've never thought of the Movie Jo Nights as movie riffing, exactly. It's closer to the concept of watching a movie with your friend(s) and making cracks about it, and pointing out all the stupid stuff to each other. Probably it's a fine hair to split, but to me a riff is more when you go in with the deliberate idea to crack as many jokes as possible. MJ watches and gets caught up, she wants to figure out why the movie was made the way it was, what's the point of doing that in the plot, etc. I enjoy it more on that level than I would if she was approaching it like Master Pancake does. Both ways are great, but one feels more casual, more just trying to have fun than doing a job.
I didn't mind Chris, but I hope that he's not there for every movie from now on. Maybe every 3 or 4 MJ could go it alone again, have it more like what drew me in, like I explained above. Just a personal preference, I'm fine with however it works out.

And for the next Mary Jo Pehl Show on July 26, she’ll be reading from her new book, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.
Speaking of which, hopefully I’ll have some news to share soon that might even warrant its own thread.

I thought "The Elevator" was better than I expected. Yes, it followed the usual disaster movie routine, but it didn't overdo it.

I found it interesting because it was essentially a bottle episode version of a movie. “We have three sets and that’s all we’re using!”

If you’re in the Twin Cities, Mary Jo is doing a one-woman show as a part of the Minnesota Fringe Fest, The Dog Show. It’s about her relationship with her dog, Seymour, before and after the death of her husband. I caught it last night, it’s very touching. There are two shows left. minnesotafringe.org/2022-show-information/the-dog-show

I didn't know he died, that's too bad (edit, he was only 59). I met him once, nice guy. Wish I lived in the area to see the show.

I didn't know that either. should we post a thread in the NEWS area, or maybe somebody did? He was a member of the forum and posted often back in the CT days, and seemed like a real nice guy. -- RADRIP

I had briefly heard about his passing, but didn't feel right about asking for more information. Far too personal a matter. I am glad that she's doing OK.
Did anyone else see "A Taste of Evil" or the "Company Retreat" episodes this month?

Aw. I didn't know RAD died, either. I met him at a Cinematic Titanic show. He was a great guy. So sorry for Mary Jo.

Who else saw "Devil Dog" last week? MJ & Chris did a good job, but I couldn't get over how much of a dunce Richard Crenna's character was. ("Oh, my kids got dog from a creepy stranger who drove away immediately afterwards. People who think something's wrong are dying violently. My neighbor's dog was ripped apart. My kids are now disrespectful, and my wife is now a seductress. And I was nearly willed into chopping up my own hand. This all seems a bit peculiar, I think.")

I'm still trying to figure out exactly how the Satanists thought they were going to rule the Earth by giving away puppies. It seems like there would be more efficient methods, you know?

Who else saw the latest "Mary Jo Pehl Show"? I thought it worked very well, with very interesting letters and advice. As for the last letter, I hadn't laughed that hard in months.

Oh, one more thing re: MJ's show. They mentioned the next "Movie Jo Night" will feature, at Frank's suggestion, an episode of "The Snoop Sisters" featuring Vincent Price. I'm a bit surprised. Given that this will be the Halloween show, I'd have figured they'd show the episode where Alice Cooper, in full makeup, guest-starred (and performed!).
