I'm on the fence about it. I'd probably be down to give it a shot, but J. K. Rowling has been going out of her way to be such a villain lately that it's hard for me to really separate the game from her. I won't begrudge anyone who wants to give it a shot, though, especially if they've got a lot of childhood nostalgia attached to the property. (And hey, maybe Rowling will learn and grow as a person. She wrote characters who did, so maybe she'll follow suit someday.)

I don't have the time to do research if the person who wrote the book lives up to my personal standards. I let the work speak for itself.

I mostly agree with that stance (one of my favorite takes on that position came from Neil Gaiman's Graveyard Book where he talked about supporting Rudyard Kipling's work even if he can't agree with the personal positions that Kipling took in real life), but the sheer immediacy of a lot of Rowling's current activities give me pause. Is me buying that game adding more to her anti-trans funds? Fueling her next Dune-length novel about the evil betrayals of people who disagree with her? Is it a meaningless drop in the bucket that ultimately won't affect her in any way? I dunno. I'm just not comfortable with it at the moment, despite growing up loving the franchise. And I'm really not trying to be a part of the bandwagon that jumped on her to suddenly declare that nothing she ever wrote was good, I'm really not, I'm just... I don't think I'll be picking this one up. At least... not through legitimate means.

I don't think I'll be picking this one up. At least... not through legitimate means. The main problem I have is that there is so much evil in the world. If something was made in China human trafficking is probably involved directly or indirectly. Most, pretty much all large companies have evil stuff in their histories. If it has anything to do with religion its tainted by the long history of evil stuff justified by religion including the anti-trans message she's pushing. Its all where do you draw the line and how much can you tolerate. Her views are supported by one of the major political parties in the US and many of its religious leaders. I totally disagree with her but she's got the same views as one third of the US. I bought all her books used so she never got a dime from me.

Oh, totally. I see it as a "meat offered to idols" thing, and view it sorta like how I never directly pay for Amazon. I'm not suggesting other people should boycott the same ways I do. Just kinda feeling leery about the whole issue this time. (And honestly, as a religious person who wishes their religion would stop being hijacked to spread so much misery to other people, I kinda feel an extra bit of fire about this particular issue that might not apply to others)

I would like to get this game just to walk (or fly) around.

I've been watching people play this on YouTube. It's interesting to see all the different ways one can create their characters and choose which House to end up in, etc., and see all the different decisions you can make and the order of quests to do. It may be more fun to play the game than to watch it, though. I can't sit through too much time watching them.
Looks like a pretty cool universe, though.

It definitely looks cool. In the months since I first heard about it, though, I've gone from feeling mildly uncomfortable about it to being very sure I don't want to support it. I'm glad that those who are buying it seem to be enjoying most of what the game has to offer, though.
