Unfortunately I'm going to miss this one. Have long-held reservations for a nice dinner at 8:30. Its a shame, I'd really like to see the live reactions to Kelsey Ann Brady's dubbed Crow.

I am getting an uncomfortable vibe about the Kelsey/Nate situation. Someone pointed out on the Discourse forum that probably there have been NDAs involved. I understand that it's not the fans' business to know about internal personnel decisions. But someone who was an enthusiastic member of a highly-touted and hyped MST3K cast, who posted so much about his involvement and work and seemed to all appearances to enjoy his job has been memory holed with only the briefest official mention of his being gone after much discussion from backers. I don't blame people for asking questions. I only hope that it was a mutual, cordial decision.
I wonder at this point if it was just overdubbing or if the host segments were reshot? If it's just dubbed, it feels not wrong exactly but not quite right either to pretend that Kelsey was puppeteering Crow in the host segments filmed last October. I guess we won't know for sure until the episode is released with the credits.

they definitely wouldn't be reshooting $$$ and they wouldn't overdub either since that would be glaringly obvious in the host segments and they would still have to give Nate credit as the puppeteer. From what was understood, Kelsey worked the production as Emily's Crow.

Guess I just imagined the picture of Nate holding Crow during the October, pre-tour shoot. (Update #42, 10/15/21)
And this from Joel in the same update:
"This afternoon, Emily and the Bots will finish their second full episode, which means – when added up – that we shot over two hundred pages of scripts and riffs this week. Getting these elements recorded represents the work of about a hundred people so far, and from my perspective, the riffs are as good as anything from the Netflix season, and even from many of the well-loved classic seasons.
The sketches are markedly different, though. Emily, Nate, Conor, and Yvonne have chemistry that is unique, probably because they spent months on the road together and did nearly 100 performances during MST3K Live’s The Great Cheesy Movie Circus Tour."
Nate worked Crow when the Emily episodes were recorded in October 2021 and for the Emily Turkey Day material. Kelsey worked Crow when the Joel episodes were filmed in March 2022, and for any extra Emily material recorded at that time.
*waits for the backpedal that you didn't actually MEAN that Kelsey worked as Emily's Crow, I misunderstood you*

Well, then we'll get Nate's crow tonight and for the other Emily episodes but we're not getting both, it's going to be either/or. Like I said, they can't afford to reshoot everything and overdubbing would still have Nate credited as Crow so there's no point in spending time and money on that either. no idea why I would be backpedaling as if I only care about being right

"Hey! Kelsey here! First off, please don’t shy away from thoughts and opinions just because I’ve entered the chat. I love you all and I love the show and I want to see it thrive just as much as y’all! I’ve been hesitant to jump in bc I don’t want anyone to feel any sort of guilt for having an opinion. Nay nay! Opinion away!
Sure I have a squishy performer’s ego , but honestly, in my short experience so far being a part of the show, even the criticisms are approached with so much love and genuine care!
I plan on being a part of future talkbacks, but I’ll answer some questions right now that I’m sure are on everyone’s minds:
Purple
Peanut Butter Whiskey
3, but one was an accident
And (hot take) it’s actually 42.145 but they rounded down."
posted yesterday in the main forums.
Good that she is getting ahead of it. Tonight's episode is gonna be heavily scrutinized and likely controversial/divisive among fans.

She's a good sport about it, at least. I'm excited to see her perform more as Crow. For all I know, she could grow into an excellent performer for the character. One little live clip isn't much to go off of.
Anyway, I'll be checking the live chat for this episode since I don't really care about spoilers. I also just really want to know what people think about it, since this is a bit of a milestone in the series.

Good that she is getting ahead of it. Tonight's episode is gonna be heavily scrutinized and likely controversial/divisive among fans. People overhype this stuff a lot. To a larger audience the Begle/Brady switch will go unnoticed; most don't know about it, don't know who either are, and based on what little we know it seems like a delicate and private issue. Any real division or controversy will be over the first female host and puppeteer/voice for Crow. Casual misogyny or sexism are sadly a part of every fandom today, and even MST will likely see some of it. But I think most fans are behind Emily and will be behind KAB. So long as they can deliver on the riffs, and from what I've seen of Emily she can, that will be all that matters.

I haven't missed a live host transition yet in the last almost-30 years, I won't start now. I'll try to sit in for part of the first hour before Joe Bob Briggs on Shudder and give some commentary. I'll catch the whole thing when it goes up late tonight.

He simply wasn't around for long enough to get attached to much. I don't think that will be an issue. It might come up if folks hate Kesley's new crow voice. But it would be a symptom of that issue rather than truly missing Nate.

I had to stop making my friday nights about The Last Drive after I made a bunch of arrangements and he showed fn Cannibal Holocaust. That being said.. considering the crossover of fans between the two I think MST3K might want to push their livestreams up to finish by 9 pm EST when The Last Drive In starts so folks don't have to choose between the two.

So does KAB's post on the forum signal that they are straight up overdubbing her as Crow for all of Emily's bits (except the episodes she shot with Joel at the end)?
