not if its encoded as part of the video True, but I doubt they did that. That would truly be a waste of effort. Oh, unless you're talking about during some live stream thing, and then I guess all bets are off.

Actually, I like the curtains. Gives it a bit more of a "theater" vibe. I'm with you, I think it's fun (Oh no, not FUN! How dare they!) That's one thing I have few complaints about, I think the Gizmoplex experience has been "fun". While a work in progress (and I wish they'd have gotten the screening bunkers set up for group watches) month by month it's grown and improved. I like how they brought back Penn, and how they finally worked out a better way to do letters (and the "thanks yous") - I love the look of it, the art design, standees, tickets, and marque. I really like how they've decorated the place for Halloween (Nosferatu lurks on one floor, and in the backers' atrium, there are tombstones, marking all the times TVs Frank died). And yup, I like the curtains because, along with the seats, it does add to the theater feel (and hell, it's not like you're prevented from watching them without, either on disc or streaming at various sites). They are a little inconsistent with them. The monthly Vault Picks have curtains through and through, whereas the regular, standard free eps at the VHX site don't - and at the Plex, on these non-vault picks, (like Alien from L.A., if you go full screen, they disappear, so you just get the black bars at the sides). If they succeeded with anything, it's that they created an event-type atmosphere. Via the site, via the every 2-week release schedule, via the easter eggs and bonus material. They created a spirit of fun.

Since there is no thread for it and most of us talk S13 elsewhere, I will give my two cents on The Mask (in 3D!):
It's a very solid riff. Gorgeous 3D work by filmmakers who obviously wanted to put on a show with it throughout the movie, and the first two host segments are great, with a wonderful song and Jonah as the immortal Tom Atkins. Synthia as the landlady from the movie is one of Rebecca Hanson’s best moments - I lost it at “from Lethal Weapon? AIIEEEEE!!!” and the movie-style zoom, one of my favorite host segment gags ever.
The 3D host segment at the end was great too. Yvonne Freese is hilarious as the skull/mask, though I legit thought it was Kelsey Ann Brady. I hope this will usher in a (resurgent?) tradition of more dedicated Halloween episodes - I can't tell you how good it felt to watch this one right before the holiday, and it's a genuinely creepy film, which is something MST has had its share of over the years (Squirm, parts of Manos, etc). The 3D was a great audience-interaction gimmick here, and I wouldn't mind getting another 3D movie next season or some other bell/whistle.
Still apparently haven't turned up in the backer end credits yet, but am I bitter? Haha, yes!

Yeah this was a solid episode with good host segments that got quite a few LOLs out of me, so thumbs up on this one, but cant help but think it could have been better. This movie was really throwing them some softballs with all the nonsense happening in the 3D limbo. Wasnt a fan of the 3D stuff but was really nice to get the OG experience of this movie and the MST3K experience at the same time. And man, so refreshing to finally get an old b&w again on MST3K.
Btw still hate that the MST3K experience is now having to zip forward the precise 7-8 minutes so i can get one final laugh via the stinger, which was great on this one. Otherwise, i feel exhausted by the time the SNL farewell music winds down, the credits make me feel like i just sat through an entire concert of MST3K music renditions.

speaking of the yearly festivities tomorrow, i wonder if they are going to announce season 14 and that its currently in production. Because come March, people aren't resubbing until they get new episodes again, im certainly not.

Lesley with Alternaversal said in the Discourse forum that there wouldn’t be any big announcements today.

For this month’s Synthia Selects, season 11’a Avalanche is one of the episodes, and they’re showing the three Christmas episodes as special events, including The Christmas that Almost Wasn’t.
I wonder if this is a one time thing, or if Netflix episodes are now more in the mix for the GizmoPlex?

I've asked on Discourse if the Synthia Select wraps will be on the upcoming blu-ray box set for season 13, but was told they probably will not be so that they can be "special" for the Gizmoplex... which is odd, because those receiving the box sets are backers of the Gizmoplex and the wraps will thus be "lost media".
They're not AAA content, but I like to have any and all MST3K content on physical media, so here's hoping it does make the bonus disc for backers. There's some fun fan servicy stuff in those wraps.

It appears the finale isn't the end of the season:
And… THE FUTURE? We also wanted to remind you all that the Gizmoplex season will continue even after THE CHRISTMAS DRAGON premieres! We promised you all a full YEAR of content and we’ve got more events in January and February planned for you, starting on Friday, January 6, when we present…
MST3K's FIRST "FESTIVAL OF SHORTS" We'll revisit some classic shorts, complete with new host segments, and we'll also debut two brand new short riffs... and trust us, we've got a short you won't want to miss!
Plus, we've got a few more surprises in store before the Gizmoplex calendar wraps up at the end of February… so keep those Gizmoplex passes frosty in the new year, be sure to save January 6 and 20 for our next two events, and we’ll update you here with more info in 2023!

It appears the finale isn't the end of the season: Good news. Pretty predictable and a great idea for them. Gotta keep people interested until its time to reup for another year.

But don't see how its going to be time to reup without a new season let alone new content.
Joel just announced at tonight's live premiere that they have indeed been working on Season 14 and will "alert you how you can get involved" in the next year. No idea what that really means whether that means people reupping via pledge drive or fundraiser (non-Kickstarter or third party this time). But don't see how we'll get a new episode come March or April.

I was skeptical in the beginning, but I’m a convert and looking forward to the future. Tonight’s episode was loads of fun.

Yeah, there were quite a few zingers in tonight's episode. Loved Joel's "Aristocrats" riff. and the live audience was interesting to see what jokes they laughed (or didnt laugh) at. They made a Resident Evil 4 reference that i laughed at but it flew all over their heads.

I watched the regular version when they posted it in the morn, then the livestream in the evening, and it was interesting the riffs that were howlers for me, that got a so/so response from the audience. Or even reading Torgo's reviews and see a riff he talks about loving that for me was, Hmm, yeah that was fine, that was okay.
It really shows how varied we are, what makes us laugh, or not. Even though we all love the same show, we're not always on the same page for individual eps or individual riffs.
