You mean Corn Job? i thought they did and I missed it unless they have that locked and loaded for one of the boring scenes.

geez these scenes with the monsters just waddling or squirming about really take their time.

I dunno—this one had me rolling most of the time earlier. Granted, it also had a lot of surprising niche references that caught me off guard. The “buy my book” reference to The Critic and the Zaireeka joke being two highlights. This one’s just very much on my wave length.

Yeah, I got those jokes, but for me, they're more clever (especially the Zaireeka joke) than ha-ha funny.
This is my second go-through, normally I don't do chats but I was losing interest, so I popped in here to see what y'all were feeling.

Yeah. This episode has lots of "aren't we clever" pop culture jokes but not JOKES-jokes. Like, I GET it. Its a reference to Wesley Crusher, when he says "shut up Wesley" but just because I know what they're referencing doesn't make it necessarily funny.

I dunno, I agree that sometimes those reference jokes can work the way you describe, but I though the context of the shut up Wesley one really worked—the staging and pacing of it landed pretty well for me. And The Critic joke—it’s not just that it was referenced, but the way Gamera’s movements evoked the cardboard cutout of Jay Sherman that made it funny. The shows always traded in this style of jokes to varying degrees of success. I’ve definitely seen plenty that don’t work. But this ep has a higher hit rate for me.

I'll agree, the Critic joke was the one that really fit well. That felt natural.

Weird green screen cutoff around Tom when he leaned left.

Yeah, I don't think they went full out Family Guy with those (just random references), they did suit the scene, but they were giving me more smiles than laughter. But I appreciate when a reference hits you just right, I get that. Oh, and Susan's "Glorious" during the death stroke. Had me in stitches. So one big laugh at the end.
