Hey MSTies, hope your day is going well. To join in the conversation... I laughed more than 10 times, maybe 50 times, maybe more. (I dunno, I didn't count). I did lower my grade a shade because it lost a bit of punch in the final half-hour (at first I thought I was just getting tired, but on my 2nd and 3rd watches, I noticed that yeah, it does slip a shade). I laughed a lot in that first hour - it gave me what I wanted, the Batman riffs, the sharp esoteric stuff (the Sartre line especially is a new favorite - I love that play/film "No Exit") and I think I was just in the groove with this one. While they do lean hard into music-related riffs, they don't go to that well any more than Alien From L.A. Escape 2000 or Laserblast did (and yes, myself and a fellow MSTie actually listed all the music riffs in those 3... Scroll to mid-page to see them) and they suited the scenes, The Ramones (with guy nodding off at the end) fit and was funny, and you absolutely had to have an Aquabats shout out. And is noticing Sinatra and briefly singing one of his tunes any more out of line than what they did in Mitchel when they spot Johnny Nash, later rechristen him Johnny Mathis, and sing a tune there? I wouldn't call it a masterclass in riffing, and as far as superheroes go, it's no "Pumaman", but I enjoyed many a hearty laugh and the movie was a lot of fun. Plus Mega-Synthia got a bit of the spotlight (prayers and well wishes to Yvonne). So I'll call it a win. Grade: 3.75 out of 5 Current ranking 3rd, behind Beyond Atlantis (still the best of the season) and Dr. Mordrid / and just ahead of Munchie and Santo.
