I'm a bit surprised no one has started a thread for this one yet. I thought the riffing & the host segments turned out OK. As for the movie... Well, let's just say Arch Oboler was capable of much better stuff. I recommend his OTR work on "Lights Out", for example.

I honestly think it's because the enthusiasm for this new season has completely petered out, at least for the group of people at this forum.

at least for the group of people at this forum. This is an important distinction. Over on the Discourse forum there are 2100+ comments discussing The Bubble. The dozen of us here aren’t really driving fandom.

I think a better indicator of enthusiasm would be the Reddit threads and number of comments per premiere. Probably a nice balance in and representation of the "average fan" between this board's cynicism and any official board or Discord's fervent fanaticism.
As far as this episode, I'll watch it, I swear. I just haven't felt the need or want to yet.

Nah--I honestly just stopped hanging out around here much because it kind of bums me out, both because of how much fun it used to be, and just how grim the vibe is now. I still check in, obviously, but it just didn't seem worth the effort to really weigh in or start threads here anymore.

I always read all the comments on the new eps, and like hearing everyone's opinions.

Not trying to be harsh, just seems like the general vibe here towards newer episodes ranges mostly between negative to apathetic. I guess I've started to think of this site as more of a shrine to the original run.
There's plenty to critique, but the other board is full of people sharing favorite riffs and quoting lines and joking around and having fun. Like this place used to be.

The discussion usually comes in a separate much smaller "spoiler" thread. I've tried to read through a few of those long threads only to find my eyes glazing over before they even get to the actual episode, but I've never had much patience for that style of repeating favorite lines back and forth to each other as commentary. I'm glad the people over there are having fun and enjoying themselves.

Yeah, we can get overly gloomy at times, during the Kickstarter when it was announced that we could see Joel hosting again, I was so excited that I came right here to celebrate and... Oh, come on... do we have to be gloomy about everything? lol On the other hand, Discourse can be rather Pollyannaish. Maybe they are genuinely that thrilled with the season, or maybe part of that comes from the fact that you have cast and crew participating in the forum and there's a reluctance to go too heavy with the criticism? For me, all I can be is honest, what I say is my truth. I'm not trying to mean when I knock something, and if I'm jumping for joy that's how I felt. I liked the Bubble quite a bit, for example. But my blog is where I usually say what I want to say, and unless I feel the need to clarify a point, I'm just repeating myself in these threads. Overall? I do think this has been a fun season, and I've been on board with team Emily (yes, I like Kelsey) but the actual riffing can be spotty. I can't really see and hear what certain folk -who are calling this one of the, if not THE best season ever- are seeing and hearing. Are any of these episodes in my top 10, no. My top 25, nope. Are any in my top 50, likely 2, sure, and The Bubble will be ranked in the top 100. But when I look at my top 25, only 4 seasons failed to place an episode in that exclusive club - KTMA, Seasons 1, 2 and 12... and now, so far, 13. How can I call a season the best ever in that case, how can I call it top 2 or 3 even? I'm sorry if that opinion makes fans want to avoid the forum, I truly am. For what it's worth, the Bubble as a movie was enjoyable (if dark, but I liked dark, aside from burning that poor woman ), with riffing that made me laugh out loud (booming laughs, not those chuckles I got from a lot of late season 13 eps) and hosted by my favorite host, ever. Oh, and no, I don't think the movie was Manos levels of bad, as it was hyped. Well, it's about time for the next tribute show and short (see, I'm still enthused) ... gotta run, later all

Guess we should talk about the episode, i still need to do the rewatch but my first impression is similar to that of the Mask, that The Bubble (unlike Demon Squad) was giving them gold so they should have really knocked it out of the park but felt like more of a bunt. And no, not Manos level of bad, but when watching it I gathered that what inspired them to hype it as a Manos was the scene where the mother proposes committing infanticide in order spare the baby from having to grow up living in The Bubble.
And since I doubt The Christmas Dragon will surprise us, I'd have to summarize that the writing just isn't as strong this season and given that these are the same showrunners that give us The Return, id have to say the writing process must have been hindered by having to reboot the show in a shorter amount of time, without the help of a network, or a big studio space, or their own offices, during harsh covid restrictions and schedules, while introducing new talent, developing the Gizmoplex platform, preparing for a tour and dealing with the various production problems that came with it (like having to disappear a Crow actor and quietly replace him with an understudy as if nothing happened). Don't know what the future holds for the show but all I can do is hope that like any artists worth a damn, they are their own worst critics and the show will improve into the next season like it has naturally done in the past.
