It’s alive. . the thread is alive!
OK, it’s an old thread but I didn’t want to start a whole new one so that I could rave about Bride of Frankenstein. I just saw this again last night for the first time since I was a kid, (I bought that Frankenstein Legacy collection thing) and I was completely blown away by what a great movie it was. I’ll even go so far as to say that it may be one of the greatest movies ever made. It was fast paced, (especially for such an old movie) expertly directed, beautifully lit and well acted. Boris Karloff’s performance as the monster is amazing to see, his ability to evoke horror and to then pity for the monster is testament to what a great actor he was.
Skip what ever 100 million dollar disposable movie that is playing at the theature this week and rent/buy this movie!

The two Frankenstein movies are like the Lord of the Rings movies. It's more like one long extended movie which is what sequels should be.

I recently saw the Life of Brian. Kick ass film. It would be sevnteen hundred stars just for the fact that those lovely Monty Python folks made it. Offensive to those with no sense of humor. Shall we quote it?
"Money for ex-lepor(SP?)!"

I just saw the original "Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" which was tres atmospheric and eerie, and then I saw George Romero's 1973 film, "The Crazies," which just ruled. Scary and thought-provoking, and probably his most political film.

Just watched Session 9 on cable the other night, and maybe it was the no-expectations thing, but I have to say I was more than impressed.
Very creepy, mostly atmospheric, phychologically very effective(for me at least) Highly recommended for folks who liked to be creeped-out, not gored-out.
Two things that may be off-putting to some:
David Caruso is in it.
It was not shot on film, rather DV, I believe.
Personally, Caruso never bugged me because I never saw his TV show or any of his earlier movies.
And I look at broadcast-quality DV all day sometimes for my work, so that didn't bother me either.
There. That wasn't so bad.

Wait! Do you mean in the theater or on tv?
If you mean in the theater, then "No, I haven't".
If you mean on tv, then "Yes, I have".

I keep seeing that "Session 9" movie in the video store and I was wondering if I should get it. Maybe I will now.
Today I watched a really cool old Christopher Lee movie called "Horror Hotel." It was black and white, and there were witches in it, as well as lots and lots of fog. It was great, really spooky. Then I watched some of Bela Lugosi in "The Invisible Ghost," but I had to go to work, so I haven't watched the end yet. It seems intriguing so far.

I saw the Last Samurai last night. Forrest is so going to kick my ass for this, but I thought it was outstanding. Great story (gotta love samurai), great acting all around, epic battle sequences, I was never bored.
Best Tom Cruise movie since Mission: Impossible.

The first one isn't nearly as good and the series goes downhill after "Son of..." Emp. Cupcake mentioned Horror Hotel. That is one genuinely creepy movie. I like it too. I watched Agnes Varda's documentry "The Gleaners and I". This is one of the best docs I've ever seen. It's Varda traveling around France with her digital camera, recording people who "glean" from fields after the crops have come in, or eat from garbage cans, create art from refuse etc. Sounds icky right? Nope. There is never a dull moment. It is a moving and very human film. Highly recommended.

Or, comedies these days all rely on gross out or toilet humor to get laughs out of the audience. There was some movie with Ashton Kutcher (a man I thoroughly loathe) called The Bosses Daughter, or something like that. It was all toilet, lame slapstick, and such. I hated it. My friends were laughing there asses off, and I was just shaking my head.

Wow, I find Donnie Darko to be very mind churning and one of the best recent scripts along with Memento. I guess to each his own.
Can I borrow some of your own though? I'm all out.

I haven't seen Donnie Darko yet, but I should probably check it out. I saw that new Peter Pan movie last night. It felt pretty rushed but other than that, it was pretty good. It had great visuals, too. But the thing I liked the most was the crocodile. I have no clue how they did it, but they managed to give the thing personality. He just seemed to have a smartass smirk on his face the entire time, but still looking like a crocodile. Another movie I saw recently was Stuck On You, which was easily the second best Farrelly Bros. movie to date behind Dumb and Dumber. Of course, that's not hard considering the crap that was Shallow Hal and There's Something About Mary.

I liked Donnie Darko. I think it is a pretty good film and with such eye candy/good acting as JAKE GYLLENHAAL(SP) certain members of the human race with the XX chromosomes will not want to turn it off. (Including me.)
